  • How about that karma? :P

    This one starts with a bit of a brag for background. My husband is a podcaster and a very talented one at that. He's got the radio voice, the timing, the poise, and the passion for it. He has recently started a podcast that's a talk show with awesome discussion and some kick-ass guests.

    He worked out a deal with a friend who runs a cool shop to do a live recording with an audience out of his place. Said friend is really excited about it and the event goes super well. Afterward, my husband, his friend/cohost, and friend/storeowner have this discussion after saying how well it went.

    H = hubby
    CH = cohost
    SO = storeowner

    H = Maybe we could do this every month!
    SO = How about every week?!
    CH and H = That's a bit much.
    SO = Well, how about every 2nd and 4th week.
    H = How about every other week. That's easier to deal with.
    SO = Sure!

    This was a pretty exciting start for the live shows. I mean, when the venue owner wants you back more often than you suggested, that's a good thing!

    Fast forward 2 weeks, another show, another hit. Things are going really well.

    Fast forward again and the guest is lined up for the third live show, the recording is merely days away, when SO drops this gem:

    SO: You scheduled it for the wrong day. I said twice a month, it's not your week. X show is happening that night.

    Ok, let's break this down:

    1. Every other week is not that hard to figure out looking at a calendar.
    2. Rather than admitting to double booking, he shifts the blame.
    3. This screws up plans with the guest, too, who had set aside time in her very busy schedule.
    4. He expects things to go on like it never happened and we adjust to his now-changed dates.
    5. The "other show" was under his own network. Like he didn't have an ulterior motive.

    The guest ended up coming for an in-studio recording, but my husband and his cohost were left with some decisions to make. This new schedule screwed everything up as CH was going to be out of town those dates. Also, we knew now we couldn't count on SO to stick to his word. Like we're going to rely on him now.

    Fast forward to today. My husband is grinning as he tells me how SO was ranting to CH about how the other show canceled at the last minute and he didn't have any performer that night. Yep, the same band for that same night that he pulled all that crap about. You know what they say about karma...
