  • Grumpy face! (nice and short)

    I manage a game store.

    Today guy comes in.

Guy: Could you open <obviously sealed product> so I can see what it looks like?
Me: Sorry sir, I cannot do it. However, there is a picture on the outside that shows exactly what it looks like.
Guy: I want to see the product, open it now for me.
    Me: No can do.
Guy: Then I am going somewhere else, they will open it for me.
Me: Ok, have a nice day!
    Guy: *walks out muttering*

And if you had opened it, and allowed him to look it over, he would have said, "Fine, I'll take one, but I want one that hasn't been opened."

      Board game store?

because if this is a video game store my response would be "it's a disc, it looks just like a disc"

Me: I expect competence from my coworkers.

Oh, naturally. They always do, though I don't know why.

It would serve him right if the unopened one he got was missing parts...

Why would anyone ask this? Assuming one can get a refund or exchange if it's missing something/defective, this is completely unnecessary. But of course, that must be why he asked!

Am I the only one thinking that he intended to steal something out of the box?

If the item were used, I could understand this...I always ask to look at the disc surface when buying a used Blu-Ray or DVD, to make sure there aren't any scratches that could impede playback. If it's brand-new, however, I just buy it, knowing that if it's defective out of the box, I can just go back with my receipt and request an exchange.

I can see opening the box if the box looks rough, is the last one and you wanted the item. I've done it a couple of times, to make sure the item was undamaged. Again, though, last one, and I want it. Good condition gets bought, bad condition gets passed on to an employee to be damaged out.

Otherwise, huh? Most packaging shows what the item looks like and has it's size on the outside of the box. If you really must know what it looks like, see if there is a floor model first!
If I make no sense, I apologize. I'm constantly interrupted by an actual toddler.

I get asked all the time to open sealed boxes. Bonus points for heat-sealed molded TRANSPARENT packaging.
Sometimes it's consoles. It's incredibly HARD to sell an opened console, even if it's not a demo, so no. what you see on the box is what you get in the box.

SC: But I just wanna see how it works!

Me: I got one in my purse as we speak, I can show you that one! Same thing!

SC: No I wanna open a new one to look at it, waaaaaaah.

                    Me: No.

                    SC: I'M GOING ELSEWHERE!

You carry around a game console in your purse?

Because they aren't sure what the box is advertising?

I was once looking for a particular product and when I found it in the store there were two identical (colour and everything) models being sold, one for $120.00, by itself, and one for $89.00, with additional components. I couldn't wrap my head around this, and asked a salesman if I could open it to check it was actually what I wanted and not just the 'add-ons' that were being sold for much less money. I was told I couldn't, but then I did ask if, after I paid for it and opened it I could return it if it wasn't the right product, and was told I could within 15 days.

No problem, paid, opened in the car before I even left the parking lot, it was perfect and went home happy, albeit confused about the stores pricing schemes.

I was assuming she meant a 3DS or similar.
