  • It's missing an ingredient...

Just got back from taking TTO out for dinner to a restaurant down the road. We don't go there very often, and were reminded today why.

It started off well enough. We placed our orders - TTO ordered chicken liver pasta (blegh) and I ordered an avo, rocket, mascarpone and salmon on rye.

TTO's food arrived first - strange, since my dish didn't require any cooking but whatever. 5 Minutes later, my sandwich arrived. Cold old toasted bread with no sight of mascarpone cheese. Dude, I'm paying the equivalent of $7 for this sandwich, I want my damn cheese.

So I hail the waitress, and point out the lack of cream cheese. "Oh, but they toast the bread" she said. I invited her to touch the bread and verify that it was, in fact, ice cold.

It was fixed, and I know it's not her fault so we didn't stiff her on the tip for that. We did deduct some tip money for not bringing another sparkling water, when I'd ordered it before our food arrived. TTO mentioned that his pasta was kind of lack-lustre as well - under-salted sauce and the livers were overcooked.

So we won't be going back there again, even though their cocktails are nice.

It would be a good idea to write to the restaurant manager about the problems. He can't fix them if he doesn't know about them.

For the record, my favorite meal at my favorite Italian

      They call it The Caruso.

Although I prefer chicken heart to chicken liver, that does sound yummy. What kind of pasta do they use? And what kind of sauce?

They use regular spaghetti and a wine marinara sauce.
            Plus they have singing waiters/waitresses.

Ah, never mind then. I don't really care for spaghetti. The sauce sounds good though. And the singing waitstaff sounds fun!

And dalesys, could you explain the reference for me please? I don't get it.

It's a great place and it's right around the corner from Universal Studios here in Los Angeles.

I don't know that I've ever been in an Italian restaurant where they wouldn't let you switch pastas around (barring things like baked dishes). I almost always prefer fett for any marinara sauce, and angel hair or the like for cream sauces. Never hurts to ask!
