    It's that time again.....

I'm working 2 pm to midnight Turkey Day. Looking forward to an epic clusterfuck. So much needs to be done yet, and now there's only one day left to do it all.

You're working tomorrow? Cool! Where can I get the best deal on (insert name of insanely popular limited stock item here) and will you hold one back for me until I can get there on Saturday? I'll want to price match and use a coupon while I'm at it.

At this time every year, I am thankful that I don't work in retail!

Last year was my first Thanksgiving off from work since I started working at The Bar seven years ago. And I was off because I asked for it. And they gave it to me.

This year, I did not ask for it, and as Thursday is part of my regular schedule, I'll be working it, but this time, I'll probably be working late. Because a lot of people asked off, they are only going to have two bartenders today and tomorrow, rather than the usual three. With the three bartender schedule, even if we're busy, when the third bartender (the closer) comes in, I'm done. But tomorrow, I'll be the opener, and the closer will be coming in for happy hour and to close. And the closer is a very new bartender, so it's virtually a lock that I'll be there late; rather than being done by 7:30 at the latest, I maybe there as late as 9, 10, or even 11 or later if we're busy, say for the holiday or if we get a lot of football fans in.

And that's the one part that sucks for me this year...my team plays on a Thanksgiving this year, and I won't be able to enjoy the game. Sure, the Raiders suck, but that doesn't mega I don't want to watch them!

But I knew about this ahead of time, and I know I'm giving several of my coworkers the opportunity to have this holiday off, and I know I'll probably make money. So it's all good. Also, management is providing staff who works tomorrow with a Thanksgiving dinner, which is cool. Cause as long as I get stuffing, it's a good Thanksgiving. And I'm almost done cookingm my homemade tropical cranberry sauce for my coworkers, because while I know management will have cranberry sauce as part of the employee meal, I also know it's gonna be that canned stuff. And, well, I feel that I'll bring an extra treat for my coworkers. Cause that's how I roll.

Also, I don't mind working because there are gonna be a lot of tourists looking for a good meal tomorrow, and most of them are not gonna wanna do room service for the holiday. And I and my crack staff will be there to make them feel at home in the tropics. And I'm pretty happy about that.

And to my retail friends, you'll be happy to know that today, on Wednesday, a normal business day, I have already completed my Black Friday shopping. Got a wireless printer/scanner that I can apparently print stuff from my laptop, iPad, OR smart phone! Pretty nifty! And I got it for a steal, at the price they're gonna be charging for their weekend sales.

Which is good, because it didn't want to be that guy on Friday, and since I'm working long tomorrow and my usual open till 7 shift Friday, I really didn't want to even fuck around with shopping. Not that shopping on Black Friday is all that busy down here. It isn't. A lot of locals go up to Miami for the sales.

So happy Thanksgiving to everyone, and for those of you who work tomorrow and/or Black Friday, good luck, and remember....it will be over soon.

I'm working at Ye Olde Merry GreenLogo Grocery Store (tm) from 7am to 4pm on Black Friday.

I'm sure when everyone realizes, "YIKES, we've been up & at 'em since (ungodly early hour), we need A SUB/WARM FOOD from the DELI," then, yes, we'll get swamped too!

Since I no longer own the gas station, this is my first Thanksgiving off in 6 years. I will enjoy it with my family.

I'm off tomorrow (yay!) but I'm working Friday I don't think we'll be busy because all of our big sales are tomorrow. And I think I managed to miss out on those shoppers because I got out a little bit earlier tonight. Tonight we were pretty busy, mostly people buying alcohol.
I would have a nice day, but I have other things to do.

Thankfully, my grocery store is never open on Thanksgiving or Christmas, and as far as black Friday goes, groceries are the last thing people are buying, so Friday ought to be pretty dead.

Well, have a safe and happy Thanksgiving whenever you manage to get to celebrate it in whatever way you find the best.

I'll be working at the liquor store - I'm not sure if that bodes well or not - the thought of angry mobs buying liquor scares me a bit. Hopefully they'll hit the other stores first and be a bit mellower when they come to get their booze...

I'm driving tomorrow. It's my first major holiday. (I sat them all out last year.) I'm told that turkey day is very good for our biz... We'll see. (Luckily, car leases are half off tomorrow.)

I'm also driving Armageddon Black Friday. It will literally be my first day ever driving ANYTHING on that particular day. (I normally stay off the roads entirely.)

I'm working all day at The Warehouse on Friday, which is okay. This will be my second year that I don't have to work at Random Craft Store on Friday, which is YAY. Thursday I have all day off.
Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.
