  • Bad Decision Dinosaur Strikes Again!

It's Thanksgiving Day. The library is closed. The bookdrop is full.
    Do you:

    A. Bring your books home and return them the next day the library is open?
    B. Take your books to another library's book drop?
    C. Leave the books outside the bookdrop.
    D. Call the police.

Time's up! Pencils down! Pass your papers in!

x_X Given your forum title, you're not in the police dispatch. So why did they entertain the loon at all instead of sending them a bill and a ticket for wasting a dispatcher's time?

I'm going for both C and D. Sounds about right for this forum.

I'll go for D! Hope the police locked you all up and threw away the key for this hideous crime against humanity. That poor customer's going to suffer now for the rest of their life.

Yes, I work in a public library in NYC. You'd be surprised at how many people just leave books and DVDs outside. all weekend. Rain, snow, whatever. We sometimes put notes on people's cards that say to tell the customers not to leave books outside.

Isn't there some kind of hefty fine for damaging library materials?

OK, despite having been on this site since 2010, and reading more stories of stupidity than I can count, this one just....arrrgggghhh how stupid does a person have to be to leave books and CDs outside a locked library!!!

And call the cops...for this??? Guuuhhhh....

An IQ that is barely distinguishable from from a rock, that's how stupid.

And I'll take D. That just seems like something an idiot of that caliber would do.
If I make no sense, I apologize. I'm constantly interrupted by an actual toddler.

I sure hope we don't have any rocks on this board. They might take offense to that

Unfortunately not as amusing as the first bit, but here goes:

Correct answer: Definitely D. Not sure about C, since I wasn't around. And yes, we charge for damages if things are left outside the bookdrop and are stolen or ruined.

Apparently the cops called our custodian (who's their contact if our security alarm goes off) to let them know this call came through. They specified that they weren't asking us to do anything about it and that they think we do a great job, etc. I seriously wish they had told him what they did to/told the caller. *sigh*

So my director has some new signs made up detailing all your options that are not leaving your books (already had that sign) or calling the cops -_-

I would go with another option - try to cram the items into the bookdrop anyhow. (the newspaper delivery person did that once back when we had an outdoor book bin)

I'm curious what this mental giant said to the cops. "I'm calling because the book drop is full, go arrest the librarian"? What crime did they think they ere reporting? Oh, wait, they are SC's, they don't think....
