  • The secret to a successful McDonald's order

I'd like to know what it is, because yet again tonight, I failed to get what I actually set out to get.

You see, I live in a city that is not underserved by this particular restaurant chain. There are four within five miles of my house, in fact. It's not my first choice for late-night munchies, mainly because invariably, whatever I want is not available or else whatever method of payment I happen to have on me at that moment is not being accepted. At various McDonald's restaurants late at night, I've been told they're out of fries, not making burgers at that particular time, or else the ice cream's "not working," has run out, or just plain isn't available. I've been told that the restaurant is not taking credit cards, and I was told once that they weren't taking cash.

Tonight was no exception. I more or less finished a very arduous school project (I think), and was hungry. I went to the first one near my house -- only to be told that the ice cream's not working, so no McFlurry for me. That was mainly what I'd wanted in the first place.

    So I left.

The second McDonald's was closed. The third allowed me to order everything I wanted, but then they told me at the window that they turn the ice cream machines off at midnight, so there went that. They were nice there though, so I went ahead and got the rest of the order. Disappointing though.

I'm really sick of it. The food's not available, or else I can't pay... I tried to write McDonald's itself about it, but the customer comment section on their website is ridiculous. One required entry demands a landmark, a description of the restaurant itself. Apparently you must provide an architectural critique of the place before they'll listen to you. I gave up.

And now I know better than to try to go to McDonald's late at night. It's not worth the aggravation.

It's better to call to make complaints. Either that or send in a letter, not using the form. As for one being closed...what the heck? I thought ALL McD's are supposed to be 24 hours.

Welcome to pretty much every McDonalds. The one next to where I work has out of order signs up almost every day for the ice cream machine.

My brother sent me on a goody run there a few weeks back for some spicy chikin sammiches...They were out, but they told me that they did not carry them anymore instead of admitting that.

You need to come to the one near me. My best friend's younger sister works there, and knows about my dairy allergy, so if I ask for something with no cheese she makes sure gloves are changed, things are wiped down, and there had better be no cheese on that burger or so help you.

The one the next town over I wrote a complaint about because not only did I have my sandwich remade three times because of the cheese, I was told (by the manager, no less) to just peel the cheese off if I didn't like it. Allergies don't work that way.

Well, eating at McDonald's is your first mistake....

Then, I don't eat fast-food because the additives in the food make me sick.

I was once told by someone who worked at a McD's that the reason ice cream's always out is no one wants to clean the machine. So, either it's gummed up from being used and never cleaned to the point of not working or they never fill it up and turn it on so that they won't have to clean it.

Personally, for late-night munchies, I think you're better off going to Waffle House and keeping a gallon of ice cream in your freezer at home.

That's been the case this time, adding insult to injury. I woke up last night with these awful burps, and I've felt like crap ever since.

Nope, only some of them are. There are only one or two 24-hour ones near me, and the one I go to the most (the one in my town, it's AWESOME! It's #3 in the state) is not a 24-hour operation.

If the location of the store doesn't call for 24-hours, it's not going to be 24-hours. They have to do enough business during those hours to warrant it, and so typically the 24-hour ones are in places with either a high college-population or very near to a major high-way exit.

The secret to a successful order at McDonalds is twofold.
                  1. Ask them what they currently have available
                  2. Order that.

                  Alternatively, try Burger King...

No. Ours just got a 24 hour lobby but I know a lot of them that close for the night. Just like 7/11... There are some that aren't open 24 hours. It's based on sales.

                      1. That's what I did at the third McDonald's, and was told they had everything available, only to be told at the window that there was no ice cream after midnight.
                      2. I did.

Alternatively, I thought about Taco Bell, but I really wanted something sweet. Today though, I've been sorely regretting my choice. Still sick, and still burping up McNugget fumes.

Here, the one or two 24 hour ones have the dreaded Night Menu, and it's just...so limited.

Unfortunately, I no longer live in a bigger city with more options. When I work till 12:30-2:30 on overtime nights and want food, I can either have McDonalds or go to the grocery store for whatever day old deli shit they have.

They can be hard to deal with. My CW had trouble getting a simple iced tea on her way to work. The girl was so slow that several cars drove off after waiting for 10-15 minutes. Then she started giving her the wrong thing, or left out the ice, and had a very snarky attitude, etc. CW called corporate and was told hers was not the first complaint about this person...and it turned out the girl was on some kind of work-release program. CW made a second complaint recently. The girl kept up the bad attitude and now she's gone.
