  • Excuse me for trying to make sure ypour stuff doesn't get ruined

I had a woman with 3 liquid cleaning products, one containing bleach, & a scarf. I started to put the scarf in a separate bag when she told me I could put it in w/ the other stuff. I asked her, "Are you sure? If it spills, it's completely ruined." I always ask because that happens more often than people think. She was totally offended; I could see it on her face. She gave me the dirtiest look. But she didn't say anything, so I decided to let it go & asked if she wanted a gift receipt. That was met with an angry "no". Just at that point her daughter/little sis/whatever asked me about my hairstyle (I do interesting things), so I engaged in a friendly convo with her. I mean, why make it worse. I made eye contact with both of them; I didn't want to offfend any further. The mom just kept looking me straight in the eye w/ hatefulness and when I wished them a good day, she said "Yeah" in a sarcastic tone. So I guess I inadvertently called her ignorant, but I really didn't mean to. *sigh*

Some people just have to turn everything into an insult. They must lead very unhappy lives. You were doing your job! And doing it well. She's the kind that would have blamed you if the stuff spilled on the scarf, too. Can't win with some people.

I had an ex roommate who was like this. I'd tell him something and he'd get insulted, someone else tells him pretty much the same thing as I did and he's not even close to being offended. When I didn't want anything to do with him after all his BS, he would then act like the victim. Misery loves company and I don't stick around for that shit. You're right, people like this lead very unhappy lives.

I just had a customer with nail polishes, and I did the same thing, and she thanked me for being concerned.

Why on earth would she be upset about putting the scarf in a bag separate from the bleach?! I had a bottle of bleach in my truck, closed tightly with a "child-proof" cap, and it leaked all over my carpet. Thankfully it's an old truck and the carpet is beat up anyway, and nothing else was ruined, but yeah...you would think someone would appreciate you trying to prevent something like that from happening!

She must be mad because you prevented her from suing you for ruining the scarf!
