  • Gee... I Wonder Why They Couldn't Help You?

I'm putting this in sightings because, while this was a customer, the suck didn't happen to me, or even in my store. SC came in today, and asked when Manager would be back from vacation. I told him, and he proceeded to launch into some woe is me tale about buying a gift card for his daughter at other CStore location across town. Seems said gift card "didn't work," so he went to the other CStore location to try and get it fixed. Problem? He didn't keep the receipt. I'll give you all a moment to facepalm over that....

Anyway, now that we're past the first facepalm, I'll move on. He kept going on and on about how he didn't get why they needed the receipt, and he was going to see what Manager (at my store) could do for him. I don't think she can help him, but I wasn't about to tell him that for sure. At the end of his 'please pity me' story, he threw in this gem:

"I told them I was never shopping at that store again, and I won't! I'll bring my gas business up here from now on!"

I had to grit my teeth and force myself not to facepalm in front of him. Basically, he admitted to being an SC, then wondered why the manager at the other CStore couldn't (or wouldn't, knowing her) help him. First of all, anyone with half a brain knows to keep receipts for gift cards, especially around this time of year. Just in case, you know? Second... You can't walk in there, be a dick, and expect them to bend over backwards to help you. It just doesn't work that way. Sorry, dude.

    What a dork.

Also, if it's the same chain of stores, that particular one may not get his business (and you will....lucky you), but the corporate owners will still get his money when he comes to your store. Duh.
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

Pretty moronic, although my grandfather did that once when he said he would never eat that that Cracker Barrel again because they did not serve enough biscuits and gravy. Yet, he would go eat at the one ten miles further from his house, thinking he would hurt the one closer. Same company and business.

Sadly, as my time on this site has often shown me, it often does. Sadly.

I can understand going to a different store because one store's service sucks, but don't automatically assume the bad store will get shutdown. If you're lucky staff will be retrained and become competent.

Actually, I've seen a case with the red roof pizza that the stores can have the same franchise owner, but still have vastly different levels of service. Unfortunately, the one that sucks has a main manager that is somehow related to the owner, so getting rid of them is impossible.. unless we take our money to the one that gives good service. Maybe.... I'm dreaming, aren't I?

Monday, there was a woman ahead of me in the checkout at the Hell Mart that was paying with a gift card. It wouldn't scan, couldn't be hand keyed, nada. She'd gotten the card as a refund for a return, so, yada-yada yada. She also had another gift card in her wallet. "But it doesn't have anything on it." (Why keep a card if you're not going to put more money on it.. and it's empty?) After 5 minutes of trying, the cashier flagged down a CSM who took the non-working card to the service desk to call the number on the back for a balance check.

While waiting on the balance check, the silly customer decides, "Hey, let's just see if this one works!" And it does, so she's happy, happy and leaves. Leaves without waiting for the balance check on the other card. Which turns out had a balance and the CSM tried to catch her before she left the area, but she was long gone. I only hope she kept the receipt for the refund card!
If I make no sense, I apologize. I'm constantly interrupted by an actual toddler.
