  • Funny Internet and my laptop...

This seems to be happening to my connection only, not my partner's.

I recently received a new laptop (a VERY much needed upgrade). For some bizarre reason though, my Wi-Fi connection keeps going down on my laptop. It works fine while charging, but while on the battery, it keeps going on the fritz.

So far, power-cycling the router seems to be working at keeping it at bay, but I can't keep doing it every few minutes. Any suggestions? It's only been doing this the last few days. It works absolutely fine on my partner's internet connection though, with no blips.

The laptop is a HP Pavilion E051TX. We use "cable" for our Internet.

Not any sort of tech, but this makes me think that the frequency of the transciever on your router may be the issue here? Do you have a spare router you can hook up to see if the problem persists with different hardware at your location?

If it's fine when plugged in and not when on battery, it's likely a power setting somewhere. There's a bunch of specialized settings for each power mode. For now I'd suggest switching it to Performance mode and seeing if that fixes the issue (though it may drain the battery faster). If it does, then you may have to find your way through all the settings and figure out which one is the culprit.

Also, make sure you have the most recent drivers for the laptops wireless adapter (go to the laptop manufactures website).

I've read recently that some HP laptops and windows 8.1 aren't playing nice on Wifi with the same symptoms your seeing. Check the HP support site for your model to see if there's any updates for your wireless card.

You've just solved a problem for me. Keep getting buffering in my 64kb online radio - This thread made me realise that its because I switched to Power Saver mode when I was working on battery a while ago!

Yup. It was an update issue.

Managed to get it during a period when my connection wasn't dropping out every five seconds.

              Thanks guys!
