  • Everybody OK down Atlanta way?

Been hearing about some awful weather, horrible ice storm, etc.

Anyone on the boards from that area?
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

    Just chillin out.

I think that we are past the worst of it. Temps are down below freezing, so I think the risk of an ice storm has past. So just snow from here on out.

Now if everyone will just stay of the streets...

Working downstairs again today, and arguing with myself if I should try to go to my convention this weekend.

I'm still around . . . just housebound today b/c of the horrible roads. Already have 7 inches and about 2-3 more expected by this evening. It's unusual for me to be home but had no way to get the car out or anyone to come get me, so I had to call work today (well, since no answer on the store phone at 6 or 6:15 when I tried, I simply sent a text to Gump and told him I was snowed in.)

Yesterday was a feat getting home (got done around 2:30 and my ride didn't make it until around 3:15 or so) What usually is a 15 minute drive home turned into more like 35 minutes or so.

Had a few roads closed off last night due to so many wrecks/sliding and stuck vehicles - glad I got home when I did. My store actually closed up early (Store Manager got the call from his boss to shut down at 5 pm b/c the road conditions got so bad so quick.)

Snow started here around 12:30 and by the time I left work, we already had about 3 inches and backed up and sliding cars at both entrances to our shopping center (we're in a big ditch and you have to drive uphill just to get out.) By dark we had freezing rain/sleet falling and right now it's stopped - but we're expecting more snow by lunchtime.

As our governor said yesterday during a press conference "Don't put your stupid hat on and go out if you don't have to."

I am. We got six inches yesterday (I'm actually in DGoddess's neck of the woods), with about a half inch of ice last night. It was raining about half an hour ago, which compressed all the snow, but now it's snowing heavily again. We're supposed to get several more inches by the end of the day.

School was canceled yesterday and today and I'm betting tomorrow as well.

Yeah, EE and I tried going out yesterday afternoon. We had to turn around because of a wreck. We went by a Food de Leone and told the workers there the roads were really bad; they were in the process of closing up, it was around 4 by then.

One of the stock guys told us he was supposed to get off at 2pm, but had stayed because a truck was late getting in. When EE commented, "Oh, a team player!", another employee laughed and said, "Tell your boss it's her fault," then mouthed to us, "that's me."

              Yep.

School's been called off tomorrow and so has trash pickup (ours is usually today but now it could be next week since the roads are still too bad.)

Just got a call a short time ago from Gump - nobody's coming into work tomorrow until around 8 (we normally open at 7) and they closed early again today due to road conditions. Our Food de Leone closed today around 4 (they got permission to close at 5 on Wednesday b/c of the worsening roads.) Even had a text from one of my bread vendors asking if the store was open this morning - sent him the store phone number and told him Gump and Store Manager should both be there. Doubt any of my other regular Thursday vendors showed up - be interesting to see if any show tomorrow.

Sun came out for a short bit and it's around 37 degrees but what little has melted will refreeze soon and cause even more headaches tomorrow.

Hope I can get out . . . although I have holiday/sick pay I can use on my check, I hate to miss work.

Yeah, I'm lucky. Since I'm salaried, I still get paid. Of course, I have to make up the hours, so I don't really get a day off, I just have to cram it in later in the semester.

I've got to get up and shovel my walk I hate shoveling my walk.

I did go out to Walmart yesterday; they were open. They were functioning with a bare bones staff, and it was nice to not see any suck in there. People were patient with the lines, and not acting like asshats. Was actually quite refreshing from what I usually see there from customers.

Made it to work today and only saw 2 of my vendors bringing deliveries today. Little guy (my Krispy Kreme person) and Brucie (my fave Little Debbie guy) made it in today.

Had one running late and, when I called right before 3:30, he was still stuck at Blowes up the road (my Frito Lay guy.)

My UTZ guy was stuck in a parking lot at another store and waiting on a tow truck to pull him out. He said he'd be there tomorrow morning early (he's come on Saturday before when he can't make it in on Friday.)

My Wiseguy couldn't get his truck out today - he said he'd be there tomorrow morning early (and when he says that, he will do just that. He's really good about making up his time.)

My Miller truck (which was supposed to have come yesterday) will more likely than not arrive tomorrow (they were meeting today to decide whether to send the trucks out on Saturday or make the Thurs/Fri deliveries wait until Monday.)

Pepsi and Coke did not run their trucks yesterday or today - if I don't see them tomorrow, they'll come toodling in on Monday (which is a regular delivery day for both of them.)

Both my pizza deliveries did not arrive yesterday. Tombstone should be there tomorrow before I leave at 1 - not sure about the Red Baron. Didn't hear back from that rep.

Luckily my Budweiser truck that was supposed to come Thursday came on Wednesday instead. Have another one scheduled for Monday (regular days are Mon. and Thurs.) and I know it'll be ordered right b/c Spanky came by himself (he was out sick some last week and the other guy filling in didn't order enough and we still had out of stocks) and went through everything in the back with a fine tooth comb.

So what I'll do is go in tomorrow from 7 until 1 and that should make up my hours that I lost from yesterday.

But roads were in better shape overall, especially this afternoon. Our parking lot was a disaster this morning - but Store Manager got on the phone not long after he got there this morning to see about having the parking lot scraped. They finally came around lunchtime or right after. They even shoveled off my ramp outside my door, which will help tremendously b/c that's where the vendors bring product through if it's not on a pallet (those come to the dock door.)

Hopefully the rain tomorrow will help wash a bunch of this snow away. We saw 55 degrees today and sunshine, which helped quite a bit with melting.

I think after this winter I will never complain about 100 degree weather again.
