  • Passenger wants to use my phone

Walking through the terminal after my flight, a passenger I recognise from the flight stops me.

Passenger: Hey, you were on my flight, listen, I need to borrow your phone to make an urgent call.
Me: Um...I'm sorry, you will need to go to the payphones just over there?
Passenger: NO, I don't want to PAY, I fly your airline all the time for God's sake, the least you can do is let me make a call!
Me: You will need to go to the airline customer services desk the, It's just over there in zone G...
Passenger: Why won't you let me use your phone? This is terrible service
Me: I need to go home now, this is my personal mobile phone, I'm not longer on duty, I suggest you go to the airline desk which as I said is just there....

I walk off after this as not sure what else I can do.

Yeah, I'd have said the same thing in your shoes. I don't even let my friends use my phone. A perfect stranger asking to use mine? GTFO.

Even if you were on duty, it's your phone -- not the company's. You choose who may and may not use it. Even if it were a company phone, they'd probably discourage "lending it out" for fear that it may get stolen -- in which case, they would probably make you pay for it.

Me: Oh, hey! You were a passenger on my flight. Just let me borrow your wallet for a minute, I need to make an urgent purchase. C'mon, it'll be fine, you fly with us all the time. What? Why won't you just let me spend your money? You're a terrible customer.

That wasn't "Wanting" to use the phone, it was "Demanding" which just makes it worse.

Me: You're more than welcome to file a complaint for not letting you use my personal non-company phone.

Seriously, I don't let passengers handle my phone (any more). If they need to make a phone call, I dial for them and put the phone on speaker. It is NEVER within their reach, even if they have to talk loudly to make themselves heard.

                ^^ This. ^^

Bonus points if you can say it with a completely straight face, while holding your phone.

If you're lucky, you can logic bomb their brain and escape in the confusion.

(I am aware that logic fails to work many times on Sucktomers.)

"Phone? Oh, this? *It's one of those candy dispensing toys. I swear, they are making them look more and more realistic!"

Yup, I've done this. I don't have a phone, never had one and never will, if another person asks. If it's really an emergency, then I will gladly dial 911 and talk to the dispatcher for them! On my very realistic candy dispenser!

                  * For an IPhone: "This? It's not an IPhone, if that's what you're thinking. It's an IPod Touch and I'm checking that it still works after I dropped it coming off the plane."

I love how they all pull the bad service line when they don't get their way.

If you can afford to fly "all the time" (which is sc language is really like once a year) you can afford your own phone. I mean those damn little tracphones are like $15. Or in a worse case scenario they can afford the four quarters for a pay phone.

At best they are cheap and lazy. At worst they are terrible scammers.

And the passenger is a jerk. Too cheap to use a payphone? What are they now, $1? Maybe less? Geez...
