I'm watching SCO last night when a guy storms up to me and starts waving two WU receipts in my face.

SC: "Are you a manager? I want to complain about [desk girl]! She's very rude and I want to send a Western Union!"
Me: "I am not a manager. You'll have to--"
SC: "I want to send a western union, give her my info and she gives me receipts with different stuff than I gave her!"
Me: "Why are you telling me this? I have nothing to do with Western Union and I am NOT a manager."
SC: "I'm telling you this because I'm going to sue this store and sue her and sue you for not listening to my concerns! She's always rude to me and this store's racist!" (buddy, she's the same race as you. Your point...?)
Me: "I've told you before, I am not a manager."
SC: "Yes you are! You will speak to her and fire her before I sue you!"

I wished F was on duty, as he would have blown SC's 'racist' complaint out of the water.

Customer just finishing up on the lane SC is blocking: "Hey pal, she said she can't help you. Shut up and move along before I help you out the door."

SC is shorter and skinnier than me, customer who's staring him down is built like a linebacker. SC leaves...without his Western Union receipts.

Later, J (service desk jockey) comes over "What did that guy say to you?"
Me: "Some rant about how he was going to sue everyone, blah blah. Thought I was a manager. What was I supposed to do for him?"
J: "Good thing [ASM] didn't see that. He would have given the guy anything and reamed us out for not being 'sensitive to the customer's needs'."

SC is a known nutball and is one of the people we should have banned awhile ago.
"I am quite confident that I do exist."
"Excuse me, I'm making perfect sense. You're just not keeping up." The Doctor

Wow, so you're a manager now on that guy's say-so? Who knew?

You should hear the western union wacko's my boyfriend gets. He had one lady throw a hissy fit because she tried to wire 15 grand to another country and he couldn't do anything without two forms of id and she didn't have two forms.

Or the guy who had been getting money from Libya to the tune of 3 grand a transaction and had picked up three that day and thrown a fit because he was trying to circumvent federal law over declaring money incoming in that amount to the IRS before you can pick it up and getting mad because they physically couldn't give it to him because western union put a hold on his account until he got the federal release forms.

Or the ones who come in to wire money to africa and can't understand why he can't spell their names off the top of his head when they are things like Kinkanuajia or something similiar.

Or the lady who comes in where EVERYONE in her family uses the same account so there are quite literally 20 names (some the same since they are cousins) in different parts of the country and he can't tell right away who she wants to send money too since there are three or more people with that name on the account all in different parts of the country that she wants to send to and of course, yelling at him for taking to long.

The one lady who was convince he was trying to steal their bank account information because they were trying to to a bank to bank transfer but didn't understand why he needed things like the bank routing number and international bank number or the account number and the like to be able to do it so OBVIOUSLY he was trying to steal from them.

Or the multiple people who fall for the scammers and cant understand why they don't have money waiting for them like promised.

He's given up on making them fill out the forms since they are never filled out properly.

His exact words, "I have seen normally competent people turn into blithering idiots when western union is involved."

All this for $.50-2.50 a transaction. Yea those fees? Those all go to Western Union not the store.

Does the store make anything on the transaction, or is it a "we do it hoping the people using the service will shop in our store afterwards" sort of thing?

I wonder how many people rail at the store when they get taken in by a scam via WU...

The average amount you make off a transaction is about half a dollar. The really big transactions (aka that 15thousnad dollar one) you will make about 2.50 off it. Pretty much you do it to get people into the store, you don't really make money off western union for the amount of effort, trouble, and time it takes to do a transaction. His store is thinking about dropping it because it's becoming far more trouble than it's worth and it holds up the line for actual customers.

Weird, when I had to wire money to my brother out of state once, they charged a pretty hefty fee to send a couple of hundred bucks.

But at least I knew he wasn't a Nigerian scammer

Oh they charge minimum of $5 all the way up into the hundreds. Bf said he did one with the fee being $287. They got $2.82 out of the fee.
