  • Seltzer anyone?

One thing that I've seen from time to time at convenience stores in the U.S. is flavoured seltzer (unsweetened). I called Schweppes (their black cherry is pretty good) to check availability in Canada, but it turns out they only sell it in the U.S.

Anyone know of a grocery or "big box" (membership-only places OK - it would be worth getting a membership for this - and road trips to Buffalo or the Detroit area are fine too) store that sells unsweetened flavoured seltzer by the case? It's my understanding that 20 ounce bottles are shrink-wrapped in flats of 24, but anything from 12 ounce cans to 1 litre (bit over 32 ounces) bottles is OK with me. Thanks.

Hm, BJ's, Sams or Costco in Buffalo or Niagara Falls perhaps. Can't think offhand what brands BJs has, though they do have seltzer water there. I don't have memberships to CostCo or Sams [Walmart owns them and I refuse to shop at anywhere associated with Walmart.]

Thanks AD - I like these too. I ditched soda-pop a while ago, and they're a great substitute.

Consider contacting Canada Dry. They originated in Canada (currently owned by DrPepper/Snapple) and sell their products there, including club soda (which is seltzer with some minerals added -- seltzer is pure carbonated water with nothing added).

Page didn't want to load fully, but if it's the same Polar Seltzer that's sold as individual bottles at service plazas on the Masspike, that's the sort of thing I'm looking for. The plaza didn't have cherry, but Polar's pomengranate is good. Thanks.

BTW, AccountingDrone, Walmart owns Sam's Club, but they DON'T own Costco.

Yes, it's Polar, and they have several flavors, according to their website. I loaded the one for Amherst St., in North Buffalo, but I imagine the other locations probably stock them, too.

do you guys have like a Dollar General or similar in Canada? 'cause if so, I've seen the flavored unsweetened seltzer sold there. It would be in the same section where the 12 pk sodas & gallon jugs of water are kept..If you're looking for a specific brand I dunno what brand these are & I dunno whether these come packed by the shrink wrapped case or not, but it wouldn't hurt to ask

                Just a thought

                good luck

In Ontario I get Nestle pure life flavoured carbonated spring water. I've seen it in sobeys and similar (foodland and IGA). It comes in lemon and lime/raspberry. It's ok for work but I find the flavour is a little low so at home I often buy club soda and just crush up a lime or a couple strawberries or something into it.
Pain and suffering are inevitable...misery is optional.

I don't know how related this is, but my in laws have a Soda Stream. It's a machine that carbonates water , then if you want you can add flavored syrups to it.

ooh yeah I had forgotten about those..we have 2 & we love ours (though I wish we could afford to get one of those ones with the fancy LCD screens on the front & the option to choose how much fizzy you want but alas they're out of budget )

Dunno if you have a Kohls, Bed Bath & Beyond or Bath & Body Works in Canada or not Wolfie but they carry those Soda Streams (Wally World, Best Buy or Target should carry them too) so you might try it

                      Good luck

PS: Amazon may carry them also

                        Bit of a status report.

Nestle: Pure Life brand lemon and lime taste awful, orange is good. Poland Springs brand (not available in Canada, bought some from a store a couple blocks from a truck stop where I overnighted) Raspberry Lime and Black Cherry are good, but Black Cherry isn't quite as good as Beer Mayim brand (brought in with "kosher for Passover" stuff last year, I stockpiled some, but it wasn't brought in again this year).

President's Choice: Orange and Blueberry Pomegranate are both good, available at Loblaw's, No Frills, and Real Canadian Superstore.

White Rock: Some good, some bad, some mediocre, depending on the flavour. Their black cherry, while inferior to Schweppes, Nestle, and Beer Mayim, is still drinkable - and the only black cherry I've found locally. Available at Metro (in the "kosher foods" section), and at the No Frills at Yonge and Steeles (also in the kosher aisle).
