  • good bye curly

so about a year in a half ago when i was still working at a call center (the one where i was fired for doing my job and not licking boots) my sister asked my mother if she want guinea pigs for her classroom. my mother being a biology teacher already had mice in her classroom, though guinea pigs might be fun.

the guinea pigs belong to a coworker who lived in a studio with his girlfriend. this girlfriend got pregnant and since guinea pigs aren't known for their sleeping at night she is having trouble sleeping herself.

so one day while im at work meimei and mom pick up guinea pigs and mother slicey discovers unlike mice guinea pigs are big! so the wind up getting home with us. and some how i wind up being their owner... still do not know why? but ok.

these guinea pigs are named curly and teddy. curly was a golden brown color and and teddy is black with a white stripe and a white paw. curly was well........ special? ok dumb as a sack of bricks. seriously i would give veggies to the in the same place every
time and he would never know where to find it....

so we have had these guinea pigs for like a year and a half. guinea pigs live about 3-5 years on average. about a week and a half ago curly had started to have a reduction in his energy level. spending more time sleeping in his little house less time running around his cage not eatting at much. at first i though it was the heat but then we had a temp drop with some rain storms and he didnt get more active.

i did some internal math and realized curly is probably at least 3 years old if not close to 5. so instead of subjecting him to poking and proding i make sure hes comfortable has food available and he isnt being unnecessarily messed with yesterday when i realized all this figuring i can take him to a vet friday when i could have the car. he didnt make it that long today i checked on him i realized he passed in his sleep. my mom helps me take care of his body i make sure teddy is more or less ok (hes still is active as can be) and clean out the cage to freshen it up.

so now there is one less furry creature in my life.

(but seriously guinea pigs aren't my thing they are cute and all but i barely like cats, im a bunny and hamster girl at the most and i even see bunnys as a foodstock. i a small phobia about rats which may be why. so while teddy is nice im not known for cooing over him like my mother is. that said it is sad curly died)

I'm very sorry to hear that. He was still a friend...a furry friend, the best kind!

I'm sorry about your loss. I lost my piggie, Buttercup, last week with no warning. I cried. Daughter cried even harder. We had a funeral and then all went to bed. /sigh

The perils of loving another. :/

You've just met the wrong rats. They can be so cute Sorry about losing Curly though...always stinks when you have to say bye to a pet.

its a general phobia around rats. im not saying ive know alot but the few times ive been around them i felt like screaming and running for the hills with a total panic and jump on a chair fashion. phobias dont have to make sense, you can still have them even if you never been around them.

I know, true enough. I just have pet rats, and love the little buggers ;p Don't let a spider near me though...
