  • Karma's a bitch . . . and so am I.

So, I took the nephew to see the Amazing Spiderman 2 this afternoon.

As I'm looking for a parking spot, I drive by and spot this:

    http://www.customerssuck.com/board/a...&pictureid=873

Note that there is a) a lack of a handicapped plate, and b) the vehicle is taking not one but TWO handicap spots.

Really torqued me off. But I check the windshield. NO tag from the rearview, no tag on the dashboard.

    Not cool. So not cool.

So I call the cops and report the bastard.

Three hours later, cue me and the nephew leaving the theater. Dipwad is still parked illegally, but he's had a visitor, to wit:

    http://www.customerssuck.com/board/a...&pictureid=874

Note the parking ticket now stuck to the windshield (you can also clearly see lack of aforementioned handicapped tag).

Karma's a bitch. So am I. I freely admit it.

    Park legally, dirtbag.

Good for you! And I'm glad the local PD responded and did something about it. They won't often patrol private lots unless called or with an existing agreement. Hee, that's probably a $250 fine right there; probably doubled for the two spots!

Good! It's bad enough taking a handicapped spot, but two?

$250 fine (no moving violations, but according to the signs beside the 401 it would take someone being MASSIVELY over the limit to get that), no need to chase someone down and make a traffic stop (one of the more dangerous things a police officer does in their career) - great way to fill a quota. It's a wonder police don't crack down even harder on people who park in handicapped spaces.

BTW, you say that the guy was parked in TWO handicapped spaces? I guess you didn't get a close look at the ticket (just close enough to see that he got one), but in your jurisdiction would he have been ticketed (and fined) for EACH of the handicapped spaces he parked in?

Woo hoo for reporting the jerk! Too bad you and nephew didn't get to see another show after the movie... it would be action, drama, AND comedy.

Couple years ago the fine for illegally parking in a handicap spot here was $75, now it's $400 because it was getting so out of hand. Glad karma got em!!

Here in northern VA it can be up to US$500...

And as the son of someone who _needs_ handicapped parking thank you for teaching this ass why they shouldn't do this!

Yikes! Here in Greensboro currently it's a $250 fine.

And you can go to the local Wallyworld and see people patrolling the lot searching for offenders and writing tickets. Mom can sit out in the car (while I'm inside) and she gets to see a lot of the fun.

Folks writing tickets, folks getting all indignant . . . all the while she's sitting in the car watching and silently cheering this on. We lost track of how many times we've come to shop and find people in handicapped spots that had no placard or license plate taking up these spots and we'd have to park out little car (with both a handicapped placard and license plate on the back) farther down the lot.

Take a look at that plate too. Personalized "MEME 2-5". Just screams an EW type of driver doesn't it?

Gratz on giving Karma the hand. Hopefully she returns the favour in kind for you.

The writing was glass side down, and I didn't want to touch it. However, here you can get fined for both spaces.

If the driver turns out to have a hang tag and just didn't display it, they can get out of trouble for one space by going to traffic court and bringing the tag. However, you can't get out of trouble for taking up two spaces.

I know. We actually hung around for a bit to see if the driver would show up; I was surprised the car was still there. I figured the driver would have come out by now, or that the cops would have checked and towed if it were still there after a couple of hours.

We were in High Point. It's the same here; a state rate IIRC.

I've never seen this. Do you mean regular people or parking authority people?

Tell me about it. When Evil Empryss is having a bad day we HAVE to have a handicapped spot for her because it is so hard for her to move.

And I've been there myself; when I had my foot surgery last year I had a 3 month temporary tag and I needed every day of it. It is soooo hard to walk long distances on crutches.

The nice thing about municipal tickets, if you refuse to pay, the PD come for you, whereas with the private-issued ones, you refuse to pay, ultimately, a collections agency comes for you, which you can pretty much dodge indefinitely if you don't give a shit about your credit rating.

However, you can only dodge the magistrate for so long....... and long before he/she gets you, they'll pull you license to see if they can smoke you out and into court to pay....

                        Ah, I love it.

It's why I don't feel bad at ALL hooking folks in the handicapped spots.

Had one the other day, no HP plate, no HP placard, double parked across TWO spaces..... and they were meters to boot, neither one paid.

I don't think you could do it anymore WRONG than that....

My son uses a wheelchair 90 percent of the time (he can walk around the house, but any more than a dozen steps or so and he's got to sit down.) We have to have a handicapped spot because we need the access aisles to get the chair in and out of the van.

Thank you, from the parent of a handicapped child, for calling the cops.

I was loading up an item for a customer Friday afternoon and he told me about a vehicle parked in a handicapped spot. Said the driver was a younger kid who hopped out of the SUV and sprinted right into Radio Shack with no apparent disability.

I just let the guy know the police do go through the lot every now and then and I have seen them ticket handicapped-spot scofflaws.

After he left I took a look at the vehicle. It had a handicap tag hanging from the mirror, so lamentably a ticket couldn't be given. Guess it was a case of somebody abusing somebody else's tag, and karma will get around to him eventually.

Or maybe he was using someones car with handicap tag to go pick up that person inside. If you have waited 5 minutes you might have seen him helping someone make their way to the vehicle. Doesn't seem that likely at Radio Shack, but possible.
