  • So, I think I've decided on a gee-tar...

    I'm going with this one:

But in the Cherry Satin finish.

I'm also thinking of "customizing" it a little. I want to add a pick guard and two covers for the pickups. The pick guard will be black, and I'm leaning toward the nickel pickup covers. I'm also considering replacing the truss rod cover. The one on this particular guitar simply reads "LPJ", but I found a truss rod cover that says "Les Paul" on it. The truss rod cover seems fairly pricey for a piece of plastic that covers a hole, but what are ya gonna do??

This is technically a 10th wedding anniversary gift from my wife, but I get to pick it out.

So I'm probably going to have to call the nearest Guitar Center and see if they have one in stock, and if they don't, if they can order one for me, along with the parts for the "customizations" I want.

And I agree that you should be the one picking it out. Guitars ultimately end up being one of those things that you have to get a "feel" for first. When I was considering purchasing a bass, I found that the Squier basses were too wide in the neck and the strings felt very slack to me. Whereas the Ibanez had a slimmer neck (easy for me to wrap my hand around and not feel like I'm having to reach for the E string every time) and the strings felt more secure.

Weird. The link worked for me. Did you copy & paste, or click on it?

      But let's try this one...

Though like I mentioned earlier, I'm planning on putting covers over the '61 Humbuckers, and adding a pick guard. And possibly replacing the truss rod cover.

Although the two darker satin ones are starting to grow on me...

It seems to also have a "120th Anniversary" logo at the 12th fret. I find that apropos, since it's our 10th anniversary.

I'm a bass player, and I just don't see very much difference between manufacturers on the low end. My current bass cost something like $80 brand new, and it sounds just fine. (Of course, I'm not playing for crowds or anything.)

Heck, back in high school, I had a Dean Budweiser bowtie bass:

(Subtract 2 strings and make the neck longer, of course. And add a second pickup.)

My brother warned me that the shape of the body would make it sound weird. I never noticed a thing.
