I'm at home today printing out 4 million pages for our training and safety books this week (possibly slight exaggeration), have to change the ink cartridge in my printer, lift the lid, change the cartridge, close the lid and....nothing. It won't turn on, my computer doesn't see it, no lights will go on, nada. I've tried pressing the power and every other button with increasing anger, plugging it in over again, and sending something to the printer to see if that would wake it up.

Now I'm on step fuck it, I'm going for a coffee. When I get back it might work or it might get coffee thrown on it. Any ideas.

I suspect the printer knows I only have 2 days to do another 2000 pages and is angry ???

I tried it again when I got back and nothing, I tried it again a few minutes ago, and unplugged it from the power bar right into the wall, and it worked.

Intermittent defect or power bar? Why don't they like the power bar, do you know?

It's got a low grade surge protect that I like, the electrics in this place suck a lot, they go off for a blinker at least a few times a day, and will go off for a couple hours at the first hint of weather, I don't trust much plugged right into the wall in here.

Try reseating the ink cartridge, and making sure all protective tape is removed. Also look at the cartridge socket to make sure nothing is fouling it.

From what I recall from my stint doing HP tech support, the printers (even the smaller inkjet ones) don't always pull enough power through the power bar for some reason. I know any HP printer I've owned over the years has needed to be plugged directly into the wall too. I think it has to do with how the bar distributes electricity throughout the outlets available on it. It may be okay if it's the only thing plugged into the bar so you could try that - I fully understand why you wouldn't want to leave it plugged directly into the wall!
HMMM I have never plugged any printer I own including several HPs directly into the wall. I always use a power-bar/surge protector as we here in Cheeseheadland have wild=ass storms blow through even during the winter. I will not take the chance and have the possibility any of my electronic equipment (including my TV and Blu-Ray player) gets fried.

Yeah I know surge protectors are not the best but at least it is something.
