  • Sailor Moon Crystal countdown (and thread)

According to the page on Crunchyroll, the simulcast for episode 1 of Sailor Moon Crystal is in 19 hours and 8 minutes!

A few facts, for those who don't know:
    • SMC is not a continuation of the previous anime, nor is it a scene-for-scene remake. It's a bit like Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, in that it is a reboot that more closely follows the manga.
    • There will be 26 episodes, airing every first and third Saturday of the month.
    • This will only cover the first arc of the story. So we'll get to see everyone getting their first power-ups, be reintroduced to Queen Beryl and the Dark Kingdom, and all that fun stuff.
    • Though Viz Media does have the rights to do an English dub, it hasn't been announced when that's going to happen (though they are debuting their redub of the 90s anime tomorrow as well)
    • The cast of SMC is almost entirely new. The only returning cast member from the previous anime is Kotono Mitsuishi.
    • A lot of the production crew has been grabbed from another Toei production- The Precure series. Several of the new voice actors and actresses have done Precure as well.
    • Rather than being on TV, SMC will be broadcast worldwide on four different websites: Niconico, Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Neon Alley (Viz Media's free streaming site).
    • Both Niconico and Crunchyroll require a subscription to see the show on the day of the broadcast. For the Hulu and Neon Alley, you do not need a Hulu Plus membership.

I am so excited about this. Like...I'm very tempted to wake up ridiculously early tomorrow to watch it.

Only for Crunchyroll and Niconico. Hulu and Neon Valley are free and require no subscriptions, if you can use those. (And there are workarounds for it if you're outside the US)

I'm hoping the 26 eps only thing won't last and honestly they extended both dbz kai and legend of korra so it might change.

Also brotherhood is better than the original.

Given the extremely positive reaction to the advanced screening party on June 30th, I'm fairly confident that there will be more seasons after this one.

I am literally bouncing with anticipation about this. @_@ And kinda hoping that my parents go shopping for a while tomorrow so I'll be home alone. Because I know I will be crying when I watch it.

Kai makes me sad. Very sad. Like Korra though. She's awesome.

I haven't watched Kai but I know it was popular enough to keep getting extended. Honestly also DBZ could use a trim of a lot of stuff.

Yeah. If you cut the filler it would be...well, at LEAST half as short as it is, if not more.

I just hate the voices with an unholy passion. What the hell did they do to Vegeta?! *cries*

On another note, Sailor Moon is pretty. That is all.

On the other hand, they did a LOT to make Freeza more faithful to his Japanese counterpart...the Kai dub ain't ALL bad.

Finally got around to watching the first episode. And I am completely blown away. *-* That was amazing. I have only one complaint- On Hulu, they left out the next episode preview (luckily, someone was kind enough to put it on YouTube).

That means watching to Frieza's introduction. Ain't happenin' here.

It looks a lot better than the original, I really hope it does stay true to the Manga. The only other thing I have to say that even though it was pretty I hope they don't do the transformation sequence each time she becomes Sailor Moon, I hope she can just get right down to kickin ass (or running away/whining) because that was one of the things that irritated me about the original. They should do the transformation sequence for each of the senshi the first time they do it then have them transform off camera so they can just jump right into battle. I have high hopes for this, but if it starts to feel like the original anime I will be disappointed.

I imagine they'll probably do one of three things:

                              1) There will be two different transformation sequences. The big, long ones for anytime a sequence is shown for the first time (i.e. when everyone gets their Super and Eternal forms) and a shorter one for the other 99% of the time.

                              2) Everyone will get a long transformation that will be used sparingly (if memory serves, the manga doesn't really show the transformations each time either)

                              3) It'll be like the first anime where Moon will have the longest transformation sequence and everyone else's are fairly short.

Kinda hoping for either 1 or 2 myself.
