  • Scary fast storm

A friend of mine posted this to his Twitter account. His parents' house got hit by a freak microburst storm a few days ago. Their security cameras caught the storm as it knocked down part of a large cherry tree... right onto his mother's car.

That was crazy! Out of nowhere. (For those interested in just car smooshing action, 5:50 )
    Tree looked pretty healthy too.

Near the end of the video, they mention that it had previously been struck by lightning. It's possible that resulted in some weakening.

Was this in North Carolina by any chance? Cause we have had several such microbursts in the past week.

As far as I know it was up in the NYC area.

Wow. Glad to see no one was injured. Tell me they're insured for that sort of thing.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

I don't know for sure. Friend didn't say anything about them being out money. I could see insurance saying "Act of God" (it certainly qualifies) and not covering it, but I think most homeowners' policies would cover this kind of thing.

Then again, I've never been in the position to find out. *knocks on wood*

I think the "Act of God" clause applies to large-scale natural disasters, rather than a localised storm which causes damage to only a few items of property. It's the same reasoning behind the typical exclusion of war damage.

On most auto policies, that would be comprehensive coverage.
