  • Life just got real

The boyfriend and I just got our finance pre approved to buy a house. To say I am freaking out would be an understatement. I am the kind of person to move towns every couple of years.

Been in my current city since 2011 and am now prepearing to put roots down. I know I want to do it, I am not questioning if I want to do it but still I feel ... apprehensive I think.

Also I am 3 weeks out from finals which may not have been the best time to start house hunting.

Congratulations...buyer's remorse before even buying. Don't worry, you'll find something you like.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

Cheers - it is starting to feel a little better about it now.

Also feel I am starting to get on top of the stupid amount of paperwork.

I don't know how it is in NZ...but when I bought my place, I thought the paperwork would never end. Seems every municipality (Federal, state, borough, school district) had a form to fill out and sign, and then had their hands out for the various fees that I had to pay.

BTW, do they offer a home inspection service in NZ? If they do, it might be a good idea. When I bought my place, I went with a local firm. It wasn't cheap, but they saved me thousands in repairs--the furnace replacement alone (done by the seller) was about $2k. The inspector's fee paid for itself

Still, congrats! Once you get a place, the real fun can begin. You know, the trips to the hardware store, the lumberyard...

Current paperwork is all to do with getting a subsidy from the government so as stupid as some of it is (printing out every transaction into my savings for the last 7 years from a government site to send to that government department) free money is free money.

I need to get a valuation done to purchase the house and I will be getting a builders report at the same time, I would rather my house stayed standing.
