  • This is not a game of Hide & Seek lady

So I head off to the General of Dollars today for another round of OTC meds since we all have the plague. Now we have several of these stores around this area and I have never been in one where there is a floor person. There are usually 1 or 2 workers either stocking or at the register.

As I am wondering from the soup to the meds I keep having to scoot around 2 older ladies just chatting away. When I finally make my way up front to check out one of the ladies said "Is there somebody else working here? There is a lady that has been standing back there for a long time waiting for someone to help her."

We were "up front". She was "in the back". Now I know the store is not very big at all but I still can not wrap my head around the fact that not 1, but 2 grown women expected the cashier to magically know some knob was standing around, just....waiting.

I said "well why didn't she come up here to ask for help?" The lady either did not hear me or ignored me and walked out. The cashier leaned over at said "I was thinking the same thing". Poor guy could not leave the register since it was lunch time people were starting the trickle in, grab something quick and check out. I don't know where the other worker went so she may still be standing in the back.

There is one of those stores near where I live. I go in there all the time. There are usually two people on staff, as far as I can tell; if I was in the back and needed something I'd go up front to ask!

I bet the customer here was an older lady, one of those people who wants stores to be like they were decades ago: Fully staffed with people in every dept just waiting for a customer to wander by. Ain't gonna happen.
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

That's what my customers want, too. Too bad. It's a discount store.

Had a similar story at the mart a few years ago

SC was ranting and raving that we should have a shaver specialist, and that an upmarket electrical retailer down the way had one.
Manager on duty at the time simply told him to go there then.

          "But they're too expensive!"

"You pay for that specialist help"

          /facepalm

This. Had a lady try to flag me down to ask a yarn question. The yarn was $3.99 and I saw she had a 20% off total purchase coupon. I told her I had many people waiting at the fabric counter, and that I could spend more time if she took a number. She said we should have person who only works in yarn, because Local Shop does, and our store is apparently "just like Malwart." If she means cutting corners to keep cost down, she is correct.
