  • Didn't read, didn't listen, yelled at the cashier

I work in a concession shop set within a much larger store. Our shop is by the larger store's tills. The one nearest us is a cash only till. There is a clear sign on that till, at eye level, so that customers can clearly read it. It says, very VERY clearly and very plainly, 'CASH ONLY' so that even a 5 year old child could read it. Did one woman take any notice of this? Nope. But don't worry! The cashier on at the time, told the queue that was forming, in a voice clear enough that I could hear "Just to let you all know, this till is cash only." Everyone seemed to understand. So, it was the woman's turn. The cashier processed the sale and then she pulled out a card and tried to pay with it. The cashier told her that the till was cash only and OMG she flipped her lid. Big time.

Arms were flailing. She screeched at the poor guy, saying "WHERE'S THE SIGN I'VE BEEN STANDING HERE AGES THERE'S NO SIGN YOU SHOULD HAVE SAAAAAAAIIIIIIDDDD BAD SERVICE BAD MAN BAD MAN YOU ARE INCOMPETENT I DON'T WANT ANYTHING NOW NEVER SHOPPING HERE AGAIN GRAAWWWR GRAWRRR GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!" (Not verbatim, obviously, but you get the gist). Then she slammed all her stuff down on the counter and stormed off.

I was flabbergasted. I actually nearly went over to her. I wanted to grab the sign and say to her, "Read this, nice and slowly. What do the large letters say?" But that would be really bad on my part. As much as customers suck, you just can't go around saying that kind of thing, unfortunately. But I did ask the guy if he was alright. He was, he said she's gone now and hopefully won't ever be back. I said that yeah, the shop doesn't need customers like her anyway.

But seriously. She didn't read the sign. She didn't listen to the guy when he told his queue that his till was cash only. And then she has the gall to shout at him and get angry over something that was all her own doing. Customers piss me right off. They never accept responsibility for their own actions. They always blame the cashier. It just sucks.

They'd have fired me because I would have shoved that sign right in her face. Or at least held it up in front of her while she was ranting and waited to see if she actually noticed it.

That would have been EPIC on your part.

But yeah, too bad they won't let you do that. More companies should. I think they try to spend TOO MUCH money trying to keep bad customers than good ones. Embarrass a few bad ones and you might just gain more good ones.

Lol yeah. No words, just shove it in her face. She probably won't have noticed though!
