Following the GPS a little too closely

One of the most important things to learn about using a GPS is knowing when to ignore it. After all, GPS databases can be:

    - Outdated
    - Not intended for trucks
    - Not intended for YOUR truck (some "truck routes" in NYC assume that "truck" means a 3500 series Sprinter with the lowest of the 3 roof heights)
    - Just plain wrong (I've had a truck-specific GPS with the "53 foot trailer" box checked try to route me along a road with a 28 1/2 foot maximum length for trailers)

I'm surprised - this happened in Wisconsin, and a certain trucking company with a bad reputation was NOT involved.

On the TV series "Dukes of Hazzard",
    - What colour was the General Lee?
    - Was the General Lee driven in a safe manner?
    - Who played Bo Duke?

Got to be more than a coincidence.
Any fool can piss on the floor. It takes a talented SC to shit on the ceiling.

More to the point, the GPS unit is a navigation aid. For matters of safety, the driver's attention has to be outside the window, where he can see the actual road type, actual road conditions, actual traffic, actual signs informing him about height restrictions, weight restrictions, width restrictions, risks of grounding, "Unsuitable for HGVs"...

...not least of which is whether the route is actually a road or not!

As the pilot's mantra goes: "Aviate, Navigate, Communicate - in THAT order of importance."
