  • Declined CC=I don't know how to extend SC's stay.

Short, but what the guy said pissed me off. SC wants to extend his stay. His card declines for another night.

Me: Sorry, your CC declined for another night. I won't be able to extend your stay?
SC: I'll just wait until [Morning shift] gets here. She knows how to do it.

Well, fuck you to you too, pal.
To right the countless wrongs of our days... We shine this light of true redemption, that this place may become as paradise...Oh, what a wonderful world such would be...

Yeah, right, the other person knows how to make a declined credit card work.

Idiot obviously doesn't know what "declined" means. Or he's delusional. Or both.

Uh-huh. So you want to stay another night, but can't pay for it.

At least not with that credit card.

Gotta love those idiots who think a clerk will magically fix their declined credit card. What are they thinking? One person swiped it down, when you're supposed to swipe it up, or what?

And, of course, maybe he submitted payment on it, which won't be reflected onto his balance until tomorrow, resulting in the morning shift "saving the day" and letting him stay an extra day.
Fiancee: We're going to need to do laundry. I'm out of clean pants.
Me: Sounds like a job for Gravekeeper!
          Fiancee: What?!
          Me: Nevermind.

I've had many, many people insist that they put money into the bank and the bank assured them it would be available "right away." Yeah....No.

Had one person placing an ad for a company "and the boss really wants this in the paper on Sunday" but their card declined. Tried again (just to humor her). Declined again. OK, she says, I'll call the bank and then call you back. She called back, said she put money in the bank. Card still declined. I tried again the following day. Surprise...still declined. More talk from her about how the boss really wanted this ad to run.

So basically, I should take her word for it that there's money in the account and eventually it would clear. Haha....No. Fortunately, I don't have the ability to release an ad from credit hold, and Accounting's not going to do that either. Too bad, so sad.

Hey, if your co-worker knows how to get a declined credit card to run through, I can think of a great career for her - but she'll have to spend the rest of her life under the radar. (Or else, how does she look in orange?)

                Maybe not....

I love it when a customer's card declines and they immediately try it again, as if something will have changed within the last 20 seconds. Sometimes it will go through as a credit rather than a debit, but beyond that, there's nothing we can do. No, not even if you're SURE there's money in there! Not even if you get a balance check from the ATM that says you have money. You're welcome to argue with our POS if you like, but it would be a better idea to call your bank/credit issuer.

I hear a lot of "but its been working all day!" - as if I somehow have the power to override the fact that their card declined.

                        "But WHY is it declined?"

Because the bank said "no"? I can't say more than that because they don't tell me more than that because of confidentiality laws. And telling me to "just run it for what I have in the account" is pointless unless you a) can tell me exactly how much that is, and b) have cash to make up the difference because no, you don't magically get let off that amount. Added bonus points for rummaging for change but refusing to pay it over (or just faking it in the hopes I'll absorb the difference) which results in me cancelling the transaction, then complaining that you now can't access any funds due to the bank placing a hold on your entire balance.

An awful lot of becauses in that sentence, sorry.

This makes so much sense. But only to people who have no idea how their credit card works.

Because if you fall for it then he can do one of the following

                            - walk out the next morning and not formally check out and hope you don't charge his card in absence.

                            - Claim to the morning manager that the notes lie and you charged the card the night before and hope to make enough noise to get the night comped.

                            - Hope the morning manager doesn't read the note and lets him off without asking for payment.

                            - Hope that the card has cleared down enough to allow the charge to do through.

Basically he's hoping the customer "always being right" will overcome company policy to get payment before the nights stay rather than at checkout. And probably hoping he can scam the hotel out of the nights room cost.
I am so SO glad I was not present for this. There would have been an unpleasant duct tape incident. - Joi

The only time I've seen this work, and its not actually declined, is in my store. We can look up a customers STORE cc, and they have to input certain info. Last four digits of their SS#, birthdate and billing zip. they put it in, and then it either comes up showing their info, we hit ok, or it asks for authorization. I hate calling as its a PITA, and 9 times out of 10, the customer has hit a wrong number, so I will ask them to do it again. But, that being said, its not that is truly declined, its that something may have been inputted incorrectly. If it happens again, i call, and sometimes it is declined.
