  • I've heard of holiday creep, but this is ridiculous.

Sometime this week, a display of Easter candy (Cadbury and Reeses eggs) showed up on the floor. It started life near the Hanukkah candy, and has now migrated to the frozen section (after I wheeled it into the back room thinking it had been put up by mistake...but what a mistake as it's obvious it's for Easter).

I'd been finding Cadbury eggs in the returns cart for a few days, and thought maybe they were leftovers from last year and a coworker found them in the back of a shelf while blocking. Nope. The display looks brand new, and the packaging for the Mini Eggs is different so it has to be for this coming Easter.

We had Easter set yesterday. Now for the endless customer complaints about it. We have no control over when this happens, we just follow the paper and get sent the stock.

So far, no customers have actually noticed as it's only the one display (the endcaps still have Christmas junk that never sells--nobody around here buys "real" toys at a grocery store).

Don't think we have Cadbury eggs yet this year but one year we had a box or two out in January and it was pretty evenly divided how people felt. Some people were happy to see them and the other half was mad that Easter candy was out right after Christmas.

We've also sold those eggs for Halloween and Christmas, seasonally wrapped of course. Somewhere along the line I just accepted the fact that all the holidays run into each other.
I would have a nice day, but I have other things to do.

Easter but no Valentines? Huh...you'd think that that would be the one to pop up first. Hell, New Years stuff!

If I saw Easter stuff in the store I'd laugh. It doesn't bother me as much as the early Christmas stuff because generally I can't wait for spring to be here and Easter stuff is a sign of that.

Now that I think about it, we're just about 2 or maybe 3 weeks away from the first potted primroses showing up in the stores. Yay!

And I thought I was only joking when I sarcastically said to a few mates the Easter stuff will be out this week!

Mind you, I saw Christmas stuff out in August so I'm not surprised Easter stuff is already out.

We've already had Valentine's candy....Easter can't be too far behind

Now I'm thinking of that scene from Mallrats where the joke was made about the Easter bunny picture station being set up 3 weeks before Christmas, I might have my timeline wrong but it's not so funny when it starts happening in real life.

I've seen valentines candy right next to christmas clearance candy. And of course the fabric store's had valentines and st. patrick's day fabric out since mid december.

We can forgive fabric and craft stores for early holiday project materials, since one does need lead time to make the project.

We had Valentine's stuffed things out before Christmas and Hershey's bagged Valentine stuff out right after Christmas.

Kanalah, we have had St Patty's Day, Easter, and Valentine's Day decorations out for weeks, and I agree that it's crazy... I actually don't like that we carry pre-made decorations at all, but it makes money, so we will keep on carrying it. Our store carries small amounts of each holiday fabric all year round, but that makes sense.

When I worked Sunday at Random Craft Store, my co-workers were building the things needed for Valentines. I told them that Valentines was, for once, late -- typically *something* Valentines is up on Christmas Eve.
Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.
