This happened several years ago when I worked as a cashier for a well known craft store.

This dude came to my register to return some merchandise. Something just did not seem right so I called our store manager over. He looked at the receipt and the merchandise and came to the same conclusion as I and denied the return - basically telling the dude to not ever come back.

Seems he came in with a receipt he found (it wasn't even for our store location) and then went around our store and picked out the expensive stuff on receipt and brought it to the register.

And that is why my store tears receipts in half (or more) if the customer doesn't want it, or if we find it on the floor or in the parking lot. I work in a drugstore, so bogus returns can be very problematic.

I got this same scammer when I was working at my WM job years ago, collecting carts in the parking lot. It was a couple, hounding people for their receipts for a "survey on general purchases." A customer came up to me and she voiced her concerns about this scam-artist, so I came up to the scamming couple--a guy and a girl who were in their late teens, 19 at least, and told them that if they don't leave and stop bothering people, I was gonna do a research survey where they can tell me how it feels to have my foot up their asses.
They left very quickly after that. My customer was laughing her butt off and told my supervisor that I did "extremely-awesome customer service."
