  • Florida Road Trip!

Vacation time is upon me yet again, for the first time since last August. And this one is me needed, somewhat desperately, as I find myself thinking to more and more customers, "Go fuck yourself" and "I hope you die." And these area not just the worst customers, either...some of them are just mediocre, and not deserving of such thoughts. Point is, I gotta get away.

And while financially this is not the best idea, fuck it, I'm doing it. And in the process, going to my first NASA launch. Well, hopefully.....its scheduled for next Monday, but we all know that such launches can be delayed, scrubbed, or what not. This particular launch has had two date changes, one very recently, which caused a mad scramble as I adjusted my requested days off from work.

So, yeah...I'll be roadtripping up to Orlando, to visit friends and one of my nieces, and also out to Cape Canaveral for the launch. I'll be having much beer, relaxing, waiting on no one I dont know, cooking for my nice and her boyfriend, possibly doing my third sky dive, and riding roller coasters and other rides at Universal. And that is the one part of the vacay that is financially intelligent....when I was in Orlando in August, I bought the annual pass to Universal. So, free admission to the park, free parking, and even discounts on some food and drink in the park. Bonus!

And an unexpected bonus....I figured my manager would work me up to the day I listed as the start of the vacay, Thursday, but she gave me my usual Wednesday off as well, so I get a bonus day to have fun and maybe do some extra stuff. Any of you that live here in Florida and mighty want to get together for a drink or just a talk, let me know. You may not be on my route, but part of the fun of road trips is unexpected detours.

Two more days and three more shifts until this most necessary vacation. Hopefully I don't kill anyone before then.

You gotta do what you gotta do, ya know? Sometimes taking a break from work may not always be the best thing financially but rather mentally -- and sounds like you need it.

Hope you have fun on your road trip.
Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.

I remember the feeling very well. Have fun, and relax.

Sounds like fun =) We are working on planning our vacation for next Feb - 25th wedding anniversary so we want to do something fun and away from home [right now it is looking like a cruise again.]

Sounds like fun, hope you enjoy

now, forgive me if I sound totally ignorant here but didn't NASA quit doing shuttle launches sometime back?

NASA still launches other rockets, but the Space Shuttle is long done.

Th Shuttle fleet has been retired (Atlantis has a great exhibit at the Kennedy Space Center that I HIGHLY recommend), but they are a still launching things into space. There's the International Space Station to re-supply, there's the new Orion project that they just recently did the first test launch for, and there are other missions that require hurling huge metallic cylinders off of our planet. The Spae Shuttle is retired; NASA is not.

I've been too long a road warrior to make that mistake. If and when I get to DC, it will be quite intentional.
