  • Fun on the 3rd of July

Our little town decided to shoot off their fireworks on the 3rd this year and our little 60 room motel is right in the middle of where this happens.

After the fireworks were over there was this group of people who insisted on partying in our parking lot outside the rooms. (we are a two story outside door motel) I got a complaint about the noise and walked down to find 9 people milling about. I politely asked them to disperse and take it to their rooms - thinking this was the end of it.

Oh no, of course it was not.

A half hour later I got another complaint from the same room. I went down again and found four of them still out there. They were on the upper floor as well as lower floor yelling back and forth. I warned them again and was promised this would be the end of it.

Fifteen minutes later I get a third complaint and this time I call the cops for an eviction. Three cars respond and the offending room is asked to leave. When they bring the dude to the lobby I have a change of heart and tell him he can stay. Both me and the officers warn him that if they have to come out again there would be hell to pay.

There were no more incidents for the night but I find out later that the hotel (me specifically?) is accused of racism because - we are an all white staffed property and the offenders were black. Of course this is not true in any way. If they had been an all white group we still would have done the same.

You could always sling the race card back at them, claiming they'd have cooperated and not raised a fuss if the staff or the cops were black. One thing people forget about racism is it's very much a two way street.
