  • Trays and Trolleys

I'm not really sure what words to properly describe this problem, but I'll put it out anyway.

Some yum cha restaurants serve their food by wheeling out trolleys with stacks of food on it. My place brings out the food on trays with four or five stacks/two or three plates of one food and we only bring out a trolley if we are really pitched.

So it boggles my mind when people become confused when they ask if we bring out food on trolleys and I tell them we use trays. Even a few days ago when I explained this, the person still asked if we used trolleys.

There's really no difference is there? Other than how much can be brought out of course. We don't bring out the trolley often coz the space between tables can get very narrow at times and it'd be a hassle to take it out all the time.

But seriously, is it really that difficult to comprehend that there may be some Chinese restaurants out there who serve their food differently?

Some people just live on stereotypes. That's how they "view" the world. When you mention "dim sum" to some people, they'll think trolley laden with bamboo steamers filled with food. They probably also see servers wearing "traditional garb" (I'm not going to put a name to it, because usually, their vision of the clothing is wrong...) and all speaking Mandarin Chinese! It's TRADITIONAL!!!!

They'd hate Hot Springs. A couple of Asian restaurants are run by Mexicans, I know of at least one or two Japanese restaurants run by Chinese, and a Mexican restaurant run by Chinese. These would blow those idiots' minds! Tradition be damned, it's a love of the food!
If I make no sense, I apologize. I'm constantly interrupted by an actual toddler.
