    Annoyance #1

My delivery area is about 25% industrial and 10% retail.

    First the Industrial annoyance:

MOST of the industrial buildings we deliver to DO NOT allow the workers of have cell phones on them during their shift as in the phones MUST be either in provided lockers or in their vehicles. Break time cell phone OK work time cell phone NOT OK How do you think most worker placed their orders to my pizza place?? If you guess cell phone you get one internet. Yeah try reaching a worker when there is a problem with their order OR if NO ONE can find them.

ALSO when ordering they seem to think that the delivery drivers just automatically KNOW just the right door to go to or the correct area of the building to home in on OR know the correct building to go to (in the case of multiple buildings)

Had one to the paper plant last week.

Einstein places an order over the phone (wow) and tells the CSR they are on the "West Side of the building". Now this facility has 3 building, 6 gates (4 of which we can deliver to) and the main employee entrance (where 99.99% of all deliveries are made especially at night. HMMMMM the customer uses their cellphone number.

Great this is going to be good
I go to the employee entrance and speak with the security guard. He tries to find the usual suspects from the main plant but to naught. He then had the idea to call the building over across the street. This is as good a shot as any because the company just hired a new staffing company to work their shipping dept.

    Current time elapsed 10 minutes

The guard gets a hold of a supervisor who has to poll all the workers under him to see if any of them ordered pizza and will call back

AND I wait and wait and wait.

    Current elapsed time 15 minutes
The guard calls the supervisor back and supervisor has found the person who ordered and they will be walking across the street to the main building to pick up their order.

and I wait and wait and wait

    Current elapsed time 25 minutes.

Finally we see someone walking up the drive to the main building. NOW this person is STROLLING not walking fast, walking with determination, running, speed walking, etc. Just strollin along the blvd like they do not have a care in the world and have all the time in the world.

    Current elapsed time 30 minutes
they guy finally gets into the employee lobby and pays for his order (yes it was a straight stiff). He exits the lobby and starts again strollin down the blvd to the building across the street.

30 minutes of wasted time and frustration..

    Retail annoyance
My delivery area has enough retail AND industrial spaces. BOTH types of business usually have their NAME emblazoned in very LARGE letters on the building and their actually number street address in VERY SMALL numbers God-only-knows-where on their building (and mailboxes are very hard to find). This is especially true in the enclosed mall we delivery to. Add to this the number of small strip malls we have.

WHY is it so damned hard when placing an order to ACTUALLY INCLUDE THE NAME OF THE BUSINESS???? This makes things A LOT easier for the delivery driver. I have had to call soooo many customers to inquire WHAT business they are at so I can find the right place.

    Annoyance #2

Specials are special for a REASON

Like most other retail businesses my pizza company runs specials and promotions. NOW as with other businesses these promo's and specials come with conditions and terms. Some specials are say for carryout only, some are delivery only, some require the customer to purchase a certain combination of products, etc. SOme customers seem to think that any special we offer (even with restrictions) are a free-for-all.

    2 examples.

#1. we are offering a carry out ONLY special for a reduced price. NOTE the special is CARRYOUT only.

The MOD takes this call. A regular customer calls in and specifically REQUESTS the carryout special. Now this particular customer usually ONLY gets delivery and usually only orders between 10pm and close. so this is a bit strange but hey ya know things happen. Order gets made and placed into the hotbox...... and sits and sits and sits.

Customer calls in wondering where his delivery is since he ordered 90 minutes ago (yes the order at this point IS 90 minutes old). MOD informs the customer that he SPECIFICALLY requested the carryout special (WHICH I will add again is for carryout ONLY). Customer still wants their order. ANNNNDDDDD guess who gets to deliver this one????

Yeah ME. Now the guy is at least a tipper, a light tipper but a tipper, so hopefully all is not lost. NOPE straight stiffs me because of his own screwup.

#2 My company is offering a deal where if you buy 2 large 2 topping pizzas and an side you get a special price.

Not the first time this has happened.

Customer calls in and wants to know the specials. I tell them about the above special. they opt for that.

I ask them what 2 toppings they want on their first pizza-------
"I will have Speciality Pizza A"
I'm sorry but you are only allowed 2 toppings. Speciality pizzas are not part of this special
    OK ham and pineapple
and what you would like on the 2d pizza
I would like Specality Pizza B

I always wonder when I read your posts, do people even want to get their food? Not answering phones, wrong phone numbers, wrong addresses, etc...

That's what I don't understand either. It's like the people at work who place an order for lunch in the cafeteria, then wander off out to the balcony or into the farthest corner from the kitchen; then the cafeteria people come out trying to find them, call their names, call out the name of the food...no response. Finally the food goes back to the kitchen.

When I delivered pizza, we had a few industrial places with employees who would order from us. It was usually a group order, and I rarely got stiffed on any of them, but there are two that stood out.

One had two large buildings and a total of five employee break rooms / cafeterias. Their never specified which of the five they would be in, and I never guessed it right on my first try when I made deliveries there. All their doors had those electronic badge locks, so I'd have to bang on the door until someone let me in just so I could ask if the pizza customer was in that break room or if I had to drive to the next one.

Then there was the big facility. It's a massive complex of buildings and open land with two entrances, roughly eight miles apart. It's a high security place where work related to government projects and explosives happened. We liked them. They always tipped, and they always clearly specified who the order was for, which building it was to go to, and which entrance to use to get there. The weird part was the security. Vehicles entering in front of me would stop at the guard shack, and the armed guard would check their IDs and quiz them about their destination and purpose before letting them in. My car with the pizza sign on it? He'd wave me right through. In the administrative buildings, people in front of me would sign in on some chart and have IDs checked again. Me carrying pizza boxes? I'd be welcomed and directed where to go in the building unescorted.

Now that's scary. How hard would it be for a spy/terrorist to get their hands on a car topper and a couple of hot bags? The "guards" needed to get their asses chewed - at a minimum, in addition to checking your ID, they should check with the person you claim to be delivering to in order to see if they ordered pizza, and if so which company and details of his order.

It would probably be pretty easy, though they might need someone on the inside to order the pizza. I suspect the guards and desk staff knew a delivery was coming.

Still, this was 1998-2000. Seemed to be less awareness of potential threats back then.

The pizza place I used to work at sometimes had an "Any pizza, any size for a tenner" special for collection only. It was clearly written on the menus and the posters on the window that the order had to be collected in order to have the special. Guess how many alliterate customers called up and threw a temper tantrum cuz they wanted the special, but to be delivered? If they did order it and rang back to ask where it was, they'd be told to come and get it. No-one ever delivered pizzas like this to the idiot. If they refused, well, their pizza wouldn't go to waste...

I worked at a medium-ish security place. Big fence around the whole place, security guys with guns. I think they let the pizza guys in the parking lot but not in the building. You had to go meet them at security. And you had to tell the gate people you were expecting delivery for them to get on the parking lot.

When I delivered pizza, it wasn't that we would never have issues or deal with SCs, but I have to give kudos that our manager was very protective of his drivers and didn't put up with assholes. You live outside the delivery area and expect the driver to spend his/her own time and gas money to drive it all the waaaayyy out to you? Fine, but you'd better tip them well or no pizza for you!

Delivering to hotel rooms was my favorite, because they were easy to find and customers usually tipped. However the front desk employees usually stiffed you, even though the store always gave hotel/motel staff a super deep discount. When someone DID tip, they tended to tip well (again, the pizza was super discounted).

Idiots like #1 are why I always give more details than are necessary on how to find me. Anyone in the office will know who I am, but I always make sure to say exactly which office is mine, and then I stay there until they show up with my food and make sure I tip them.

I know they are getting paid to provide a service, but they aren't paid much and there's no need to be a jerk. I want it all to go as easily as possible.

Plus I want them to like me when I'm calling them all the time at the holiday season so I don't have to deal with the crazies in the mall when I want to eat. ;-)
