  • Fracking Damnit. Bad news at work

Ok everyone I've posted on here about how awesome my boss is. I totally trust him, he's an awesome leader and we think a lot alike when it comes to taking care of guests.

Well he's leaving. I don't blame him, he has had a better opportunity open up, and he's got two little kids to think about. But I am decidedly NOT. HAPPY. right now. In fact I have to not think about it too much or I'm in danger of crying. Our housing is uncertain (still interviewing roommates) and now there's transition at work.

Also, I feel sorry for whoever replaces him. He's going to be a very hard act to follow, everyone loves him. And if the replacement isn't as patient with my ADHD, I may be out of a job.

I honesty have no idea how the staffing company hires people or what they look for (my awesome boss was the one who hired me), but I will NOT stay in a place with an abusive boss, or even one with a very different personality. If I don't like the new guy, I start looking. Heck maybe I'll start looking anyway. I'm honestly grieving over this, it feels like someone died.

Thanks for listening. Imma go read Arga's posts for a while, I need a laugh.

Change is no fun, and it's even less fun saying goodbye to someone you trust and like. But don't jump ship yet. Give the new manager a chance. He/she might be just fine.

Change sucks, but just try out the new guy. You can scope out alternatives but it's premature to jump ship.

Our last AGM was amazingly awesome. He left for greener pastures. His replacement was the CEO's son. Red flags shot up around that one. However, CEO's son is actually a really great guy and a good boss! I had my concerns but they turned out to be unfounded.

So just give it time. You could be getting another great boss on the way. You won't know until you wait and see.

Maybe ask your boss to recommend a replacement to the higher-ups. Hopefully it will be someone that he trusts.

Annnd....my other favorite coworker is leaving too.

That said, current awesome bossman may actually have some influence on who is his successor. At least I am hoping and (literally) praying that's the case. If he leaves us in the hands of some ogre, I'll quit. But I will give his replacement a chance. If nothing else, I've learned from Awesome Boss (AB) what a functional workplace team looks like. I've had good bosses before, but never one I worked closely enough with to actually see how they did what they did. I hope we can keep in touch, and even if not, AB will be a lasting memory I can visit when I'm stressed, as well as an example to strive for.

Update: we have a new sales manager, also very nice, so apparently whoever is doing staffing is focusing on that. That makes me less nervous, but I'm still gonna miss my boss.

His last day is tomorrow. I'm scheduled off but I'm bringing him a card and a little gift. Life is too short not to let people know what they mean to you. He's apparently still with the company, so maybe we can stay in touch, and it will be nice to know someone higher-up even if he isn't in the same area of town. It also means he might have had some say in who his successor is. Still hoping for the best but also still dusting off the resume just in case.

I was pretty depressed at work yesterday. Trying to cry and get it out today, but not having much luck.

Another update: we have an interim GM, who so far is doing a good job. My boss' actual successor starts the 9th, and office rumor is he has Awesome Boss's endorsement. That's enough for the new GM to start out with a sizable credit in my "respect and loyalty" bank, but time will tell if he can keep a positive balance.
