  • The feeding frenzy begins!

Or in other words, the new schedules got posted.

I'm one of the freaks who likes 2-10 shifts. So far I've had 5 people messaging me to trade. Unfortunately, 3 of them wanted to swap the same week so it's not as good as usual. Oh well, I'm sure it will all turn out!

    I love 2-10 shifts.

I love the late shifts too! I'm lucky though, the people I work with ALL want to work the day shift (except for those that can't - students, etc). So I pretty much get the schedule I want all the time!

It's the opposite here at ITSD at The Client. No one wants to work a shift outside normal business hours.

Whenever someone on 2nd or 3rd shift needs to take a day off (or longer because of vacation), K will try to convince day shifters to work a shift here or there. Some of them ask K "Why don't you make a rotation for that kind of thing?" (i.e., have a roster of people to cover open shifts on a rotating basis), to which K would ask, "If I did that, would you agree to work those hours if it came up?" and every single one of them said no.

Me, I like my 2-10:30 shift. I don't have to deal with rush hour and I get to sleep in.

Why doesn't your boss just schedule you for 2-10 if he/she knows you like them and will just switch anyway?

^Same reason my bosses won't let me on the salesfloor even though I hate cashiering. In retail you're not allowed what you actually want.

Precisely. That sort of thing could lead to workers actually gaining additional competence/experience and confidence, which would lead to them actually expecting to get PAID slightly more for all of those qualities! The horror! The horror!

Actually, I get paid more than my front-end cohorts and the salesfloor team. And several of my supervisors. They just don't want to let me out of my cage.
