  • What a d BAG (Long)

So this idiot comes in at 3 am. Strike one
He had called earlier at least, and said that he'd be late. Minus half a strike.
Problem was he said that he'd be here at 1am. Strike one (again).
When he got here, he had a bad attitude. Strike two.
He said, I remember YOUUUU not in a nice way, with a sneer. I didn't remember him at all. He wasn't pleased that I didn't. Strike three.
After check in, he grabbed a business card and wrote all over the front of it and gave it to me. On it was "5 towels, 9 washclothes, 5 soaps, 4 shampoos, 4 conditioners, etc..." and he said that he needed all of these, that he always got them, and so he would.
Ok..first off he was staying alone, no wife and no kids, so why all these stuff. Strike four. Plus, why write all over the front and not the back. Strike five.
He was bald so why the hair conditioners and shampoos. Just greedy. Strike six.
I told him that since it was THREE in the MORNING that the housekeepers weren't here and there wasn't any in the front desk, but I would be happy to ask the security guard, Mr. Dim, to gather all his stuff and send it. He was happy about this. But then he asked for a free hairbrush and comb (again, why?) and I said, sorry, we have it in sale in our shop though. He was unhappy to hear this, as many are. Strike seven.
So then he asked how long will it take to get his stuff. I gave him an ETA of 10 minutes, give or take. He said ok. He says to tell Mr. D to put it all in the bag and I do.
Mr. D gets called, I explain to him, and he nods. It takes a while to get all the stuff, and he goes up to deliver it. At 5 minutes, idiot calls and blares WHere's all my STUFFFF??? I said it's on it's way right now. Stirke eight for customer standard time.
Mr. D comes back, says that he knocked with no answer, so he laid the bag down and put all the things on the bag. Idiot calls and is very upset about this.

Idiot: "HE PUT MY STUFF ON THE BAG, NOT IN THE BAG AND NOW IT'S ALL DIRRRTTYYYY I DIDN'T PAY FOR THIS TO HAPPEN TO MEEEE! GET ME ANOTHER OF EVERYHTING NOWWWWW!!!"

I apologized, and Mr. D, who was overhearing, apologized too. Idiot continue ranting about him paying us all this money and not getting his stuff right and I told him very politely that he paid for his room, not free stuff, and that if was a problem, I could refund his money if he felt our service wasn't to his liking. He didn't listen and continued ranting about how important he was before finally hanging up.

Mr. D apologized for his mistake, and I could tell that he was very embarassed. I told him that it was no problem, mistakes happen and idiot should understand that and not be verbally abusive. We made fun of him the whole night and that was nice.
Strike a million for being a suck customer though. Seriously who asks for all that stuff and it's three am and has no hair? He probably was mad because he has none. :P

By the way, Idiot, Mr. D's coat was dirty too. So the towels were a bit. Penalty: Banished to Mary Yacht!

I'd ask what this idiot's problem is but I just don't have that much time or interest...

What a total jackass - and you KNOW he'll come up with numerous reasons you need to comp him. I hope your managers tell him to take a flying leap!

I'd say SOMEONE gets off on stealing hotel freebies. Why else would he ask for so many? Also, although I do know what site this is, I do hope, as elf does, that your managers have some backbone, HM. None of you should have to put up with that kind of thing!

Does he take the towels and washcloths home too?

I guess it would've been rude to ask him if he wanted moisturizer instead of shampoo/conditioner for his head..

I don't like the hotel shampoos and soaps, I bring my own. I always grab whatever I can though and take them home to give to the homeless shelter.

However, I would never DEMAND more. I tip the maid and leave a note asking for extras. I tip the maid no matter how many she leaves because I assume that she has rules to live by as well.

I guess that I always assumed that those little bottles only cost the hotel a few pennies each so I wasn't being a thief by doing that.

If I've been a sucky customer, please tell me. I honestly don't want to be mean or rude.

Meh, it's not rude to take what soaps and shampoos you used. If you used half a toilet paper roll or tissues, you can take that too. We don't refill them here cuz 1. don't have the time and 2. cross contamination ew.
Anything else is off limits: towels, linens, blankets, pillows, furniture, appliances, etc. I saw on the news once in some other hotel someone made of with a TV! They caught the guy on cam and he was arrested.

And yeah I just found out he complained about me to corporate: "I only asked for one towel and it was dirty! I don't deserve to be treat like this!" Bad for me, since the managers found out and are furious with me. THey blame ME for this dumb guy and for the Bitch from Hell from my last SC post, the one who's reservation got canceled. She blamed ME for cancelling it (even though I didn't and I told her so) and the managers blamed ME. WTH? So I'm getting blamed for my CWs doings?
I guess I could fight it, but I really don't like it when managers don't support you & believe the lies of SCs...so back to C List for another part time job. I'm writing my resignation letter after this.

What a jerk! Can you show the managers the card he used to make his demands?

I hope you find a new job soon, having no back up at this one is going to make you tear your hair out.

Ever read "the spy who loved me" (one of the James Bond novels - NOT the movie by the same name)? The character doing the narration was hired as an off-season counter person at a motel (owner was actually setting her up to be murdered as part of an insurance fraud), and the owner told her to watch out for young couples in station wagons - apparently a common thing was for a young couple setting up housekeeping to rent a room at a motel, then in the middle of the night steal EVERYTHING from the room and leave.

At the motel, I once saw someone attempt to make off with a mattress. They were on the second floor. It was all outside entrances and they were in plain view of the office, so not sure why they thought that was going to work.

So glad both my managers have a working BS detector. Our AGM is from Brooklyn. He can't be intimidated and there isn't a scam on earth he hasn't heard of.

Who wants to bet he was waiting for you to comment on why he needed shampoo when he's bald so that he can yell "THAT'S DISCRIMINATION!!!" at the top of his lungs? He sounds like the type...

Sorry if this is a dumb question but is it illegal to steal towels from a hotel? Or do they just write it off?
