  • Profound Realization

I realized the other day why I have never been a fan of Adam Sandler films. Most of his humor seems to spring from him being an adult who has freak outs like a toddler.

If I want to see grown-ass adults throwing temper tantrums, I would just go to work.

(and it's not always the customers either...)

Yeah, I don't care for his humor either. I can watch the the neighbors if I want to see that.

Can't stand Will Ferrell either. All of his humor seems to involve shouting and, eventually, running around in his underwear

After working retail, I don't like any movie or tv show which shows a store clerk being rude to an oh-so-sweet customer. Yes it can happen, but it is SO rare compared to how often it is the other way around. I watched a short bit where Daniel Radcliffe "worked" the front desk at a magazine in NYC for an hour. The thing that got me was how many people didn't notice who he was, because many don't even look at a receptionist. People weren't easy on him, and I don't think he had training, which is realistic.

I also can't stand humor at other people's expense. Like hidden camera pranks, especially ones where someone pretends to be hurt or disabled and tries to get people to help them. Haaaate.

That sort of mean-spirited, bullying humor does seem to be in vogue today, doesn't it?

We often say that customers should try working our jobs to see what it's like, but really, people are so self-centered and narcissistic these days, I don't think they'd learn the lesson we want them to learn.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

It's a bit of a shame too. He has the timing and talent to be a good comic actor. He can be funny when someone else is writing. When he gets to write his own material, it goes straight down the drain.

This is why I have never been able to watch The Office (the original UK version at least); I've worked in that environment for that boss, and it was anything but funny.

I always found Will Ferrell to be extremely dirty and vulgar...and then he went and did the voice for the guy in the yellow hat in the Curious George movie! And I liked that! (It's like Bob Saget and Full House, you'd never believe he was so filthy if that's all you know him from)

Adam Sandler...yeah. Except for Mr. Deeds (which I still love, it's pretty reasonable), and Little Nicky (a guilty pleasure...humanizing the devil, plus Rodney Dangerfield? lol) I have very little tolerance for him.

Plus his god-awful laugh! I hate Adam Sandler's laugh with a passion, it's just freaking obnoxious!

I have never found Sandler's movies funny, but then again, I'm a parent and really, I get sick of the tantrums and freak outs pretty quickly. Basically it boils down to, "I get to watch this sort of thing for free at home.. why on earth would I want to pay for the privilege of watching it on the big screen?"
If I make no sense, I apologize. I'm constantly interrupted by an actual toddler.
