  • Incompetent Cashier

Was doing my weekly shop at a supermarket when I came up against a cashier who was incompetent at best, stupid at worst. I told her clearly that I wanted to pay by card, and she put my shopping in as cash. She then said, "Well, I could refund it but then you'd have to scan everything again, and I do have a queue, you know," which annoyed me, cuz it was her mistake and she didn't even apologise. I asked her to wait two minutes while I went to get some cash out the cashpoint out back; I rushed back and she was already serving the next customer.

I wasn't long; probably about three minutes tops, and she'd just gone on to the next customer so I had to wait til she'd finished. Get this tho, when she'd finished, she was about to serve the next customer in line! Luckily tho, he took my side and said, "I think you should take the money from the young lady who's waiting to pay." She gave a heavy sigh, as tho she was being asked to do something completely unreasonable, and opened the till. She gave me my change and turned to serve the next customer, without even saying a thing.

I don't normally complain about people, cuz working in retail myself I understand that sometimes mistakes happen, but this time I did. It wasn't the mistake that bothered me, it was the fact that she was incredibly rude, didn't wait for me to get back with the cash, and seemingly planned to make me wait til her queue was done (and when would that be, given that it was a busy day?) til she took my money. If that other customer hadn't spoken up, I'd have asked for a manager there and then. As it happened, I went to the desk and put in a complaint afterwards cuz her attitude was all wrong, and believe me, in a similar situation, I'd be apologising profusely to the customer.

Wow! That is some bad service. I sometimes accidently pushed cash when I worked in fast food (exact cash was right next to card) . Luckily we could do a cash out transaction with no purchase so i would do that .

I've done it myself, usually when it's busy and I'm stressed; the procedure in this case is to either refund and redo, or give the customer the option of going to the cashpoint. If they take that option, I normally leave their transaction open and wait for them, going to another till if a queue appears. I certainly would not force them to wait til everyone else was served cuz it's my mistake!

There was no back button? Hmmm, something does not smell right with the cashiers story.

Methinks, the back button required a manager and she did not want to get into trouble for something she had repeatedly done.

When I cashiered at the Bullseye I'm pretty sure there was a change payment button. Don't know if other stores had that.

Even if there wasn't, she still could have apologised and waited for me, after I chose to go to the cashpoint to save her the trouble of re-scanning everything.

That is just weird. It sounds like she was trolling.
