  • You're too slow for me

I was recently called out to a "job" where they had taken over a business and wanted to change the keys. Not a problem, normally.

Except they wanted a restricted key. Under the terms of my contract with the controlling guild, I have to keep the components and blanks for my restricted systems locked in a fixed safe at home. Can't actually carry them in my vehicle unless going to a job. Even then, I have to have the blanks already cut and marked before heading out. As you can imagine, this creates delays in installing such things.

Anyway, told them it would be 45 minutes to an hour for me to get home, cut the required keys, and come back with the required components. They OK'd this, so I bid them a pleasant goodbye, and said I would be back soon.

I get 5 minutes drive down the road, and receive a phone call.

"Yeah, hi, you were just out here organising to change the keys for us. I'm just calling to let you know that we can't wait that long, and have found someone else."

    What. The. F***.

I responded nicely enough, saying fair enough, but I think they heard the seething anger under my "nice" voice as they hung up rather quickly. Needless to say, their phone number has gone on my blacklist.
Mytical: A SC? Make a mistake? Oh goodness no. Must have been the little pink men from the planet parsley in the butternut galaxy. We all know that SC's could NEVER make mistakes.

And to think they could've avoided all that if they had just told you before what they wanted.

Who wants to bet they didn't tell the next locky either?

      Insurance

If they lied and did not tell the next locksmith that they need a restricted key I bet if they get robbed/damaged that the insurance company will find out when they dig a little.

Result - no insurance for damages!

      They should have waited.

I think I would have been evil and sighed when I was told they found someone else. Just before I hung up on them I would tell them that the law doesn't allow for field cutting of that kind of key and warn them that anyone willing to break the law to do it most likely would make a copy for themselves to use later.
