  • So Done With This Week

I dunno what it is about this week.

Well, apart from it being the first week back after the Thanksgiving holiday.

My CW "Casey," who works Sundays and Mondays with me, is using up some of his holiday leave (which expires at the end of the calendar year) this week, so he wasn't in.

Sunday, therefore, it was just me for most of the eight hours I was in. Not really that much busier than usual, but the majority of the calls I took that night all came in a half-hour span, which left me a little frazzled, especially as they all came right as I was attempting to eat my dinner.

I get home from work on Sunday, and attempt to turn in around 3am or so. This is normal for me, and I generally get about 7-8 hours of sleep. But for some reason, I just could not fall asleep. Around 6am, I said "screw it" and screwed around on my phone for a couple of hours. I considered calling out for my shift on Monday, but I'm too damn nice, and knew that would completely screw up second shift, so I didn't. I managed to get a couple hours of sleep before my alarm woke me up. I did hit snooze a few times, but I went to work, not without getting a can of Monster energy drink to try to keep me alert in the early hours of my shift.

Monday, as one might expect, was busy. First day after a long weekend is always bad. I was stressed out because the calls just kept coming one after another for the entire first two-thirds of my shift. I barely had a chance to calm down. Nevertheless, I made it through my shift, but by the end, I was still just in functional mode as I got home. I picked up some fourthmeal at Taco Bell on the way home and tipped a moderate share of vodka into my non-caffeinated soda. I turned in earlier than usual for me, and got my 8 hours in. I was still not feeling at my best, but I figured I could handle Tuesday. After all, my CW "Mac" would be in, and that would make things easier.

Tuesday. Well, I get to work, and Mac has called out. CW "Lash" agreed to stay until "Deb" came in. Calls are still coming in, because now it's the first day of the month, and there's usually an influx of calls on such days, as accesses or accounts expire or start flashing warnings. No biggie, I can handle it.

Then Deb calls out. Now it's just going to be me again for two hours or so at the end of my shift. And I've got a nasty ache in my upper back that won't go away. I suspect it's down to my old-as-shit mattress and I plan to rope my Dad into helping me buy a new one and schlep it upstairs with me, but that's for the weekend.

So, to summarize-- third day straight I'll be the only second-shift worker on. Tired. Sore. Frazzled.

I'll be taking the day off tomorrow as a "mental health day" because goddamn, I need to decompress.

      I needed that day.

Didn't get any extra sleep (since my body is now conditioned to wake up at a regular time every morning), but being able to just decompress, chill out at home, and not have to go to work helped immensely.

I'd had some backache over the last week that is gone today. And Mac is at work, so I won't have to look forward to another evening alone.
