My current employer is going through some changes, and I was told that my last day of work is December 31st.

As of January I will not have a job.

    Such charming timing, too.

My employer has decided to have a different division of the company clean most of the parking garages. These parking garages are managed by a specific property management company.

There are 2 other parking garages that are managed by a different property management company. The only porter working at those two garages will still have her job. She will still be working in the morning. She cleans a total of 14 floors.

There has been a shift change for the other porters.

Instead of working 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the porters will be working overnight from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Monday through Friday.

There will also be a bigger crew and more work to be done.

So as of January the only morning porter will be the one who cleans those 2 garages.

The good thing for the porters working the overnight shift is that they will get a raise. As for the morning porter, that may not happen because her garages are under an entirely different property management company that wants to save money by having her clean 2 garages all by herself. She has stated that if she does not get a raise, she will quit. Both of us have the same manager, but he does not know that she wants more money.

The parking garages I clean will fall under the different division beginning in January.

If any of the other garages have to be cleaned before 7 p.m. or after 3 a.m. who knows what will happen.

The property management company does not want to see dirty garages.

      This should be interesting.

I know its not ideal but hopefully there will be a severance package involved which hopefully will help and at least you will be away from that employer that was rather... difficult.

Sounds like management is making a wise decision <sarcasm mode off> which will result in a cascade of further problems.

Hope you find something new soon!

            Something I forgot to add...

The area manager I reported to told me that he works 65 hours a week, but he only gets paid for 40 hours a week.

Plus he has a wife and a couple of young children.

Maybe you should see if the service company has job openings, since they now have more work to do?

                Update

My co-worker, who cleans the 2 garages, was offered $10.00 an hour by the area manager both of us report to. That is how much the property management company that is over both garages is willing to have our employer pay her. However, that is roughly $1 to $2 less than what the overnight shift will be making. She is not happy with that decision.

Our manager asked me if I wanted to work part-time seasonal events. Yeah, it is a consolation prize, but I need the money. So I said yes.

As for my unhappy co-worker, do not know what will happen next.
