  • Working on Christmas

I work in one of the few stores open on Christmas but we only have to do a four hour shift that flies by. Usually the phone is ringing nonstop with people asking if we're open or if we carry certain items We had that this year but not as much. Mostly we had lots of people thanking us for being open and working. A church group even came by and gave each of us cup of donut holes. It was strange to have such a nice day at work on Christmas. I didn't even get a "So sorry you have to work".

Just wanted to share that, since there's so many grouchy crabby people out there it was a nice change to actually have grateful customers. They'll all be sucky tomorrow. Lucky me I get to go through it at two stores.
I would have a nice day, but I have other things to do.

Gas stations, Walmart, major food stores (giant, food Lion, etc).

Our Safeway is closed today, not 100% sure about Giant or Food Lion but I think they're both closed too. I know at least one gas station is open (cash only and gas only).

Walmart is NOT open on Xmas Day. We were open yesterday, yes, until 8pm. I believe we reopen 8am tomorrow morning (12/26) but I am not positive because I'm not working tomorrow .

Short list of places possibly open. And that's nice that people aren't being sucky. I didn't work yesterday, but previous years it's not the worst. (The worst is Halloween) There'd be a few crazies, but the most annoying people came in the week before. You know, the one's who are outraged that we ran out of *gold/silver ornament hooks, spray on snow, white fur trim* or that would couldn't order anything in time for Christmas.

Convenience store across the street from my house has been non-stop busy! He has more than likely made more money today than he has in the past couple days.

I work in a major pharmacy chain. Our competitor on the opposite corner and a few fast food places besides the gas stations are the only things open today. No grocery stores are.

Chinese restaurants tend to be open Christmas day.

I'd think pharmacies would be open part of the day if someone need emergency meds? Well, I guess if you end up in the ER then you'd use the hospital pharmacy, so maybe not.

My cappuccino machine died last night so I'm glad the internet is open. The stores don't have what I want in stock anyway.

I worked today but everyone was pretty nice. We had a little bit of a lunch rush but nothing too major. I also got paid time and a half which was certainly helpful.

The railways don't shut down. Full day for me today and tomorrow, working New Years Eve and New Year's Day too. At least it was double time and a half. Merry Christmas to everybody, our dinner will be Sunday, lol.

Hotels, motels, and inns don't shut down unless by order of the CDC. I'm currently typing this from behind the front desk of the Dumpsterfire Inn.

Casinos are the same way... even the admin and accounting and pretty much everything that isn't HR or the GM were open and operating today.
