  • So you don't want us to find your child?

This happened to my coworker, M, yesterday. Some woman came up to her and said, "I can't find my child." M asked if she wanted us to call a code Adam for her and she jumped down her throat. "There's NO REASON to make a big deal over the radios for something like this. All I want you to do is page him on the loud speaker. Ugh--you know what? Nevermind; I'll find him myself." She walked off. M did a page over the loudspeaker or the radio (I don't remember which she said) anyway. The woman came back and said "You can tell your people they don't need to do that again"--or something like that. M informed her that if we know a child is missing we have to call it out, period.

Well, excuuuuuuuuse us for trying to help you find your lost child! I think she was more concerned about not looking like a bad parent. Who cares?? A child is lost! Good grief. Some people really are that self-involved.

Wow poor kid. Mom doesn't think his disappearing is a "big deal."

Well, to be fair, in the vast majority of cases, it isn't. Usually the child has just gotten distracted and is quickly found. Some people don't like raising the alarm for what is, after all, most likely just a minor issue. It doesn't necessarily make them a bad parent.

I get the whole “let's not make a big deal out of this thing"... But if it's a big enough deal to say something to a worker, then let them do their jobs for fucks sake.

Why ask just to blow them off? Besides... Make a big deal and embarrass the kid. Bet he'll think twice next time.

IMHO, if a parent doesn't want to "make a big deal" about their child being lost in a store then they shouldn't go up to the employees there and tell them that their child is lost. Believe me, if the women didn't want to make a fuss I WOULD make the biggest damn fuss about it possible.
Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.

Do I detect some kind of lawsuit creation here?
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

I can picture that situation. It would probably go something like this.

                    Lady: My child is missing!

Employee: What does your child look like?

Young Man (walking up next to lady): There you are, Mom.
