  • I'm not even on the clock, and a newbie... when

    This happens:

So, after a near two months of trying to get on board with a department store, I'm over there waiting for HR to get my freakin last name spelled right, along with the pay I was offered. I'm over at the schedule putting it in my phone when,

A customer walked up and said, "is this where you make a payment?"
I said, "I'm new here and..." (wanted to say I didn't know)
She cut me off snapping, "That's not what I asked. I asked if this was where you could make a payment." I said, "I'm new here and..."(wanted to say I didn't know)
Cut off again, "I asked if this is where you make a payment. I didn't ask if you were new or not." I just silently counted to 5 and said yes, and nearly told her to fuck off with her shit.

I heard her tell my would be coworker something about me, and she told her that I was new. I don't know what was said after that, but she still had an attitude about me, just by the way she was gesturing and moving her head. Sucky Customer couldn't even give me a chance to explain why I don't know if you make payments here. I was behind the counter over by the schedules, by myself at the time.)

I would have talked right over her. "AS I SAID, I'm NEW and I DON'T YET KNOW." Then a big toothy grin and a "HAVE A NICE DAY (bitch)"

My employment would have been short.

Yeah, I don't advise actually doing that. God, she was a piece of work, though...rude!
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

"I'm new here and I am still downloading the location of every last item in the store, the UPCs and prices along with all the procedures. 12% done."

If I don't know the answer to a question, that's exactly what I tell them, and nothing more unless specifically requested. I've found that anything volunteered after "I don't know" is typically ignored like background noise or rejected outright as a lie - either way, it's a waste of breath. Now, if they want to politely ASK for more details, find out who might know more, or wait a moment while I try to find an answer fine. If they want to be a jackass about it, they'll discover just how 'courteously unhelpful' I can be.
