  • Maintenance matters!

Had a crummy day earlier this week. Go to the shipper to pick up a trailer full of dog food to take to Albany for a drop-and-hook delivery. Do my pre-trip, trailer has an air leak in the brakes. 4 hour delay waiting for service guy to get there and get the trailer fixed.

Get to the consignee, am instructed to drop the trailer in door X, then go to the drop lot to get my empty. Hook trailer #1 - has an out-of-service condition due to electrical issues. Unhook, make mental note to let our maintenance people know about it once I've got a good trailer. Hook trailer #2 - OOS due to brake issues. Unhook and hook trailer #3 - another OOS due to brake issues. ALL 3 OF OUR EMPTY TRAILERS AT THIS CONSIGNEE WERE DEFECTIVE. E-mail our maintenance people to get a service truck to fix the trailers.

Arquebus Motor Freight has a problem with people not doing pre-trips. From what happened here, it sounds like people brought in a defective trailer, and when a subsequent driver found it was defective, they left it and took another WITHOUT LETTING MAINTENANCE KNOW ABOUT THE BAD ONE. Lather, rinse, repeat, until all that were left were defective trailers, and some poor shmuck who's already running late due to bad equipment, and who's on a tight schedule to get to a backhaul before they close, can't get a working trailer.
Any fool can piss on the floor. It takes a talented SC to shit on the ceiling.
