  • HD Cloning Utility

My laptop hard disk is rpeorting about to fail. I have all the data backed up so that isn't a worry.

Can anyone reccommend a cloning utility so I dont have to reinstall all the things.

Norton Ghost used to be a great one, but it has been almost a decade since I used it, and don't know any competition atm

I'd look at the manufacturer of either your old or new hard drive; they usually have hard drive duplication utilities you can download from their website.

I know of a couple: Seagate has DiscWizard, and WD has Acronis True Image WD Edition.

Problem might be that you say you're trying to duplicate a laptop drive - I've tried the Seagate DiskWizard with the new drive attached via USB, and it didn't want to work. If that's the case, both utilities are based on a program called Acronis True Image, which is a very good program, but it's $50.

I've not attempted the duplication yet - getting hold of reccomendations before going for it.

Successful cloning using Acronis True Image WD edition. Replacement drive transplanted and working fine.
