A month after Miss Special left on 'medical leave' I hired a temp guard who fit in incredibly well with the team we've built, and when Miss Special decided she wasn't coming back I was excited beyond belief because the awesome temp guard could stay. It was a foregone conclusion that he was going to stay anyway because I was going to give Miss Special her walking papers anyways, but still.
Anyways, Awesome Guard handed me his two-week's notice on Thursday because there is a new retail store opening up that is right up his alley and he has been offered the assistant manager position there. He told me that he was feeling sick all shift because he loves being part of my team but he couldn't pass up the opportunity he's been given. I am so happy for him although I will miss him a great deal because he was such an amazing fit from day one. I know that I will still see him around because we do tend to run in a lot of the same circles, and I know that I will be a patron of the store he'll be working in (and not just because he'll be working there...they'll be selling LEGO, all sorts of LEGO!).
I already have somebody hired to fill his position who I know will be a good fit as well
They were the first person who contacted me after I posted about the position on FB, asking all the right questions about the job and what it entailed - even before they knew that I was the one that would be making the staffing decision. Heck, they were the ONLY person I knew that contacted me to ask anything about the job beyond wage and location. So, by the time I went to bed on Friday I knew who was going to get the job and the application was merely a formality.
It was so nice to be able to meet up with them yesterday at another friend's house and say, "Welcome to <company!" Newbie was all "How could it be done so quickly? Really?" When I told Newbie that the application was only a formality as I knew about halfway through our convo about the position that they were hired, and that I do all my own hiring and firing, they literally starting crying because they were so happy Now Newbie only has to do the onboarding crap and come in for a tour around the site and all is good to go...and we've already set up a tentative time for that this week as well.
