  • Apparently my brain injury face looks like my RBF

So I think I have a mild concussion AGAIN. All week I've been at times unsteady on my feet and headachey. I'm really tired today, so sometimes I don't comprehend what someone's saying to me. (That happens when I'm not concussed, to be fair.) If it gets really busy my hand-eye coordination goes, too.
It was busy up front and a lady came to me with 2 bottles of cleaner. She was peeling off a coupon and apologizing because she was taking too long and I immediately said "Oh, that's ok!" I meant it; it didn't bother me at all to wait. She said something about 2 bottles and I thought she meant that the coupon was for 2 of them but what she meant was that there was another coupon on the bottle I'd just scanned and bagged. I must've furrowed my brow because I was confused for a few seconds and when I realized what was going on I said, "Oh, OK" and took care of the second one and the rest of the transaction with no problem, I thought. I wished her a good day and mustered up as much smile as I could while feeling as dizzy as I was.

After she walked away I went to another register to get more bags and she called out that she was sorry she'd taken the bottle out of my hand. I again exclaimed that it was ok and she looked at me funny, so I explained that I didn't understand there was a 2nd coupon and that "I'm a little off today". Of course she didn't know what I meant by that but that was all I could think of to say. She walked away talking to her husband and looked bothered enough that my supervisor asked what it was about. That leads me to believe she might complain that she apologized but I was still angry. Thing is, I was never angry in the first place; I don't even remember her taking the bottle from me. If she did that was fine by me.

I just feel bad that she thought I was annoyed at her. She was a nice lady to apologize at all. I just honestly was out of it for those 15 minutes of busy-ness, trying to stand up straight and get my hands and eyes to work together.

I can't afford to stay home.

I wish you could; it sounds like you need a few days off to rest and recover.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

At least I wasn't wearing my nametag so she can't name me. If it comes up then the supervisor in question will recognize the scenario and explain my side. I just feel like I should not go to work injured. But I'm always injured/compromised in some way.

I had a concussion in the '80s, when I was on a bicycle, and got hit by a guy running a red light in a car. I took his windshield out -- though to this day, I still can't remember the actual impact.

I remember watching Roseanne on TV, and not understanding anything. I remember the frustration, and the embarrassment, when I couldn't understand what people were saying to me.

I wish you could take the time off to get well.

I'm all better now. But that was the 3rd concussion I've had to work through. I just think that if the cashier is not feeling well or some such there are those sucktomers who totally make it about them. At any rate, my posting helped me feel better because I completely forgot about this until this thread popped up again. So thank you for "listening". I love this board.
