I got a call at about 4 am today while sitting at the front desk. A student was complaining about a couple of noisy people in the room next to hers. I quickly left to go investigate. I knew this was going to be bad as I felt nauseous just from the fumes as I approached his door.

When I got there, the girl who complained stuck her head out to complain a little more, and I could hear why. I knock, and give my "you gotta calm down or you're gonna get in trouble" speech, and suggest he try going to bed. It's at that point he goes and slams on the bedroom door. Turns out he's got a friend in there, and they're both too drunk to operate a door knob. They actually managed to get the door open, and I told the friend it was probably time to leave. They seemed okay with that, and thinking the situation resolved, I went back to the front desk.

Shortly after I got back, I get another phone call from the same student. The guy is STILL banging around, only *joy of joys* his drunk friend stumbles off the elevator just then (who seemed to have trouble working the automatic door). At this point, I call the on-call Resident Assistant, thinking she might have more luck convincing the guy.

RA comes down a few minutes later to take a smoke after dealing with the guy, and tells me that the girl stuck her head out again to mouth off to the drunk guy (hardly helpful), and that she thought everything was settled for the moment.

After she comes back from her smoke break she says she can hear him from outside (he was on the 8th floor!) so asks me to come up with her, just in case. Finally, after more cajoling and wheedling, we think we've got this guy convinced to quiet down. It's been almost 15 minutes now since the last time we talked to him. If we talk to him again tonight, he's going to be facing fines.

But this guy was so amazingly drunk, I was surprised he could even speak, though he certainly wasn't coherent. I wonder if he thought we were magical fun-killing pixies... Sheesh.

Wow! I'm surprised that students can get away with that in the dorms there. The college I went to, if you were falling down drunk and being obnoxious, the policy was to assume alchohol poisoning and have you transported by ambulance to the hospital. Once they get the bill from having that happen once, they usually don't bother to come back to the dorms in that condition again.
The only words you said that I understood were "His", "Phone" and "Ya'll". The other 2 paragraphs worth was about as intelligible as a drunken Teletubby barkin' come on's at a Hooter's waitress.

      Oooh... I love that solution!

Alcohol poisoning is a very real danger, too, so it's not like they can claim it's not an appropriate level response.

Meh, I prefer to call it "voluntary Darwinism". Natural Selection works, we should let it.

Yeah, I'm rather fond of natural selection myself.

However, in most cases, people who suffer from alcohol poisoning are not truly stupid, merely ignorant.

It's the ones that don't learn that should be allowed to suffer the results of their own lack-wittedness.

Wait. He's living in the dorms, but he's old enough to drink?

We took a friend to get her stomach pumped once. She was incoherent, which in turn became unconscious, ending up with having to call EMS, who couldn't wake her. After all was said and done, she bitched about getting a minor in posession ticket and didn't even bother to thank us for worrying for her health and life.

The drinking age in Alberta is 18, if your old enough to work the oil rigs, your old enough to drink!

Well, I saw the same guy come stumbling in tonight about an hour ago. No complaining calls or anything yet, so I'm holding out hope the guy managed to lock himself in the elevator or something. I was thinking he might have been on something besides just being really drunk, but I'm voting just stupid and drunk now.

I forgot to mention, this is not a young looking guy, either. He's 28. We've got a real age-spread in here, because we'll take people from any college/university in the area.

errr.... most of my uni friends who live at uni are in their early 20s and nearing completion of their degrees. My boyfriend, who moves out of dorms later this month, is 23.... What does being old enough to drink have to do with it?
