  • Entire weekend of hell at the hotel

One weekend not too long ago the hotel I work as a night auditor hosted a large group of college aged kids here for a dance competition held in our ballroom. The fun started Friday night and lasted through Saturday.

Friday night I was working alone. From the time the shift started until well into the night these kids were everywhere - and being obnoxiously loud to boot. An entire group was in our lobby practicing for the competition. Another group was setting up stuff in the atrium. Kids were running back and forth between rooms and hanging out in the corridors outside of rooms. I had to leave the desk on numerous occasions to ask them to go to bed. I even caught six of them in the Jacuzzi - after they had hopped over a locked gate.

Saturday night arrived and my bosses actually asked me to come in on my day off so there would be two of us here. the kids left at the start of our shift to go to a party at a bar and came back and the fun started up again. We received numerous complaints. We asked the adult leader of the group to quiet the kids down. We tried everything we could possibly do before I finally gave up and called the cops at 3am.

This group probably never knew how close they came to getting themselves kicked out of the hotel.

The management should have kicked them because of the jacuzzi thing alone! Being in a pool area when it's closed means no lifeguard, which means major, MAJOR liability if any of these idiots had gotten themselves hurt.

As was mentioned in WishfulSpirit's hotel thread -- One good idea may be to have the bosses contact the college and inform them that groups from their school are no longer welcome at your company, period, and then send a letter to the Dean informing him, in detail, of why that decision was made. Perhaps the managers could be convinced to do this?

What a disaster! Did you have to comp any other guests? And I'm shocked that they weren't kicked out!

I agree with EricKei - send a letter to the Dean stating in no uncertain terms his college will NOT be allowed to stay again and that you will inform the other hotels in the area of this fact. Send a copy to the local paper as well. And be sure to include a bill for any comps or damages.

Hopefully the Dean won't ignore this but realize this sort of behavior gives the school a bad name and will take steps to insure it doesn't happen again.

      Please keep us informed...

Gee, where were they on Friday for you??? I hate it when bosses pull this stuff; "You're fine by yourself; but be sure to come in and help me out."

Exactly why I gleefully told my now-departed ex-manager no every time this scenario came up.
