  • "Get me a manager, not a stupid person."

Dealt with this guy at about 10 PM. He had one of the store coupons, which for some reason always scan as "$0.00" (but also read "DISC AT TOTAL" so just READ THE SCREEN); I see what's going on but I also think the SCOs could have been programmed better to handle that.

He calls me over with the usual "Come hither, slave" (I would have ignored him had E not seen the guy and told him "Dreamstalker will be right with you" and then started harassing me...thank you so much for giving this asshole my name) and starts in with "This coupon isn't working! Make it work! This happens all the time! It's stupid!" (with bonus implication that I'm stupid)

Now while some of the store coupons in fact need an override, I see pretty much immediately what happened. The coupon says "2.5 oz, any variety", while he picked up the 3 oz. I explain quickly that I need to see the item he scanned (point is to show him the difference and offer to get the correct one)...SC says "No! Are you telling me you can't figure this out? Get me a manager, you're stupid if you can't see it works! I want the store manager, not a stupid manager!" Continues in that vein while I go over to the desk and get J. I know SC can hear me and just say: "There's a problem with a coupon not going in and the system won't let me override it."

SC: "Get me the store manager, not a stupid manager and not a stupid cashier who doesn't know what's going on!"
J: "ExCUSE me, what did you say?"
SC: "Get me the store manager, not some stupid people who can't read coupons." (J and I were both in purple shirts, so for all SC knew we were both managers)
J: "Do not talk to my employees like that. I will get the manager, and you will only deal with him and me."
The "stupid" crack would have been an insta-ban, but only D has that power and the SC wanted him to "fix" the coupon, so...J goes to find D after instructing me to not engage SC. So I go off to other kiosks and provide my usual awesome service for customers who actually appreciate me (and know how to use coupons).

I later ask J what happened with the guy. He tells me that D just gave him the coupon...I expected that.
J: "You were right, he was wrong. I made D sign off on it and do the override as for the record I didn't agree with him either."
Me: "Good. The way this place is getting I don't want any coupon shenanigans under my name."
J: "I know you don't. I recognize that guy from another store. He's a douche, always has to be right and hates being corrected by a woman. If I could get him banned I would."

Someone has already started a rumor that the site has already been sold to the town, so maybe that's why people are getting worse.

    Override

If the customer gets away with using the coupon with the wrong item, then they will continue to do the same thing.

What should had happened was the customer should had been told:

"You are the STUPID ONE here, the coupon clearly says 2.5 ounces, and your can say 3 ounces. If you can't rad and tell the difference than you are stupid and an illiterate."

This customer will be back making more stupid demands in the future.

If only I could say that...I really wish I'd been there when D told J to put it through. D is the one who always says "No substitutions!" (which IS policy...yet upper managers break it all the time in the name of "business") and I would have called him on it.

I'm surprised SC didn't try to accuse me of "searching his bags" when I asked to see the product (we are allowed to ask to see an item to match it with a coupon)....I now wonder if he didn't have some unscanned stuff in there.
