  • He didn't just say that?!

So The day finally came for my last Scout shooting event so started here-
    http://www.customerssuck.com/board/s...d.php?t=115479
Show up the day of all's well get ready, people show up and I begin.
No this was a event for adult Troop/Crew leaders and Venture Crews called Powder Horn. It's kind of big deal, it's over $100 to go it's 3 days long and done only evey few years.
So here's what promoted this to suck-
1st shooter a Venture crew kid (18+) step up to the bench to get his pistol lesson
I'm go into my speil and of course I have places and stop and ask if they have a question. Always a good idea before giving someone a live gun. So he askes-
who would get in trouble or be on trouble if someone shot them self?

oh no he's not going there...any time else I would of booted him from the line instantly, but I quickly decide to play it off and give a second chance by just saying you be in the most trouble because you have the hole leaking vital fluids but anyway back on....
    This now was almost simultaneous-
one of the leaders told him that he should stop and just listen to what I'm saying and the kid says
who would get in trouble if you got shot during this?
Ok you just broke the one rule that I have neg tolerance for- you threated me.
Before my Range safety officer could act, I cleared the pistol and kicked him out.
Struggling to keep it clean I say why he was being removed he said it out loud so no one disagreed with my actions and were equally mad about his statement.

So as it turns out it's an issue we have to deal with more and more he has Aspergers and has done this before-he didn't mean wrong. and oh they should of said something before we got started. Thus the late warning.
Well no shit! I could of better redirected his 1st question or ..I don't know you just don't know what triggers these kids.
So the RSO reminded them the rules and we got through it and after they sat him down and he understood I let him shoot last. No new troubles.
At the public range you did that you were told to leave, no refunds loudly and profanely and the firing was permanent.

Sarcasm dear, sarcasm. I’m well aware that dealing with civilians in any capacity will skin your faith in humanity alive, then pickle anything that remains so as to watch it shrivel up into an immortal husk thus reminding you of how dead inside you now are.

Aspergers or not that is a COMPLETELY inappropriate thing to say at a firing range - about the same as yelling "fire" in a crowded theater or "bomb" in an airport. IF someone had told me about the Aspergers before hand I might have let the first one slide but NOT the second, he should have been reprimanded immediately upon the first utterance.

I'm glad he got a chance to shoot AFTER he was given a firm chewing out, hopefully this was a good learning experience...

Yeah this was a prep failure. Honestly this child should have had the opportunity to go over safety stuff before there were live guns, possibly with an unloaded one to inspect other wise a gun doesn't have to be present to learn safety, and ask questions before hand in a more safe and familiar environment.

What disturbs me is this child has a condition that makes certain things very uncomfortable and he could have freaked out just having the gun taken away. He really needed seo one on one time before he got there.

Can't really prep for this. For one thing, how they may react or even that they would can be a wild card. I understand about zero on this.
I didn't get was far as giving it to him thankfully just doing a demo.

It did just occur to me he never said sorry though many others did.
