New computer, it's got Pro

    New computer, it's got Pro

    I replaced my POS Windows 10 brick with a refurbished Windows 7, which has Pro on it. I keep finding no help when I look up how I as a common non-business user can use Pro to my advantage/make the most of it. All I've found on my own is that I can back this thing up to a network.

    Does anyone have any links or explanations they'd like to offer?

    Comparison chart here. One biggie is that Starter is 32-bit only, thus, the 3.4GB limit on RAM; Home is capped at 16. Both support fewer CPU cores, as well.

    Realistically, aside from Starter/Pro assuming that T3H END LUSER ARE TEH DUM (certain dialogs and settings restrict you more heavily, but you can get around this by using GodMode), the significant differences between those and Pro are not many for the average non-business user.

      The only reason I ended up with W7/10 Pro after years of using W7 Home Premium was that home would only register one of my computers two CPUs. Not too much of a problem 8 years ago, but wih games getting more technically demanding I wanted more power in Windows (It's a dual booted Mac Pro)

      Also with Win 10, Pro has the option of NOT automatically installing updates among other minor "power user" controls

        Take a look at O&O ShutUp10, a free app, if you want more control over stuff like that, including data gathering, in Windows 10.
